Chapter 19. Leaving

"Can you give me a chance?" Dylan asked me as I started walking to the edge of the building; looking at the stars.

"Dylan..."

Why so sudden? Why didn't he ask me years ago? Why now?

I gazed at the stars like they were trying to tell me something. Wether to say, Yes. Or to say No.

It wasn't even light out when I woke up. I didn't want to bother Cassidy, so I decided to go onto the hospital for some stitches or something to ease the pain.

I walked out of the building while the rain started to pour, and started to call Lucas. He was probably worried sick about me. I mean, he is kind of like the Dad of the group.

He picked up as soon as I hit the call button. Usually he would be in a caring tone making sure I was alright.. But today was different.

"DEAR LORD, LUKE!! WHERE ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN!? WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?!" He yelled.

I chuckled at his tone of worry, but then went back to all seriousness. I didn't want to think about last night.

"I... I forgot something at my uh.. Cousins house." I said hoping that I saved it.

"Oh.. Okay."
"My phone died last night so I couldn't text or call you.. Sorry man."

"Its fine. We are like brothers. Hit me up if you need anything. Okay?"
"Okay. Bye Lucas."
"Bye Bro!"

Like I said, I didn't want to bother Cassidy. I mean I did want to spend time with her but.. She went threw a lot last night. I was surprised she let me stay.

It was cold outside with the morning dew and rain and I had forgotten my jacket in her dorm. Great.. Now I have to go up there.

I limped to the elevator and hit the button for her floor. I really hope I don't wake her up. She looked peaceful when she was asleep. I smiled when I saw her in a vivid memory of late last night.. The way she slightly snored. I wasn't bothered at all by it. I thought it was cute.

I never really thought I would like her. I mean.. We haven't known each other for long. This never happened. I was planning on asking Cassidy out a few nights ago; I even broke up with my girlfriend for it. I broke her heart by doing that, but I never thought that this would happen.

I checked her door to see if it was unlocked. Luckily it was.. I walked in and grabbed my coat noticing Cassidy was gone. I looked around to see if she were in here.

Nope.

I walked to the kitchen to see if she was just getting a snack or something. But, she wasn't in there either.

I started to walk out of the room when I heard something fall from behind me. I quickly reached down grabbing the basket of silverware and placed them back on the island.

"Huh?" A voice said running from the tiny hallway with a softball bat,"Who is it? I have a bat and Im not afraid to use it!"

I looked at the girl quickly.

"Kayla?" I asked confused of why my Ex-Girlfriend was standing in Cassidy's Dorm.

Her face went to a confused look. This was awkward for not only me. But her as well.

"Luke? Why are you here?"

I paused and studied her face. She was hurt, although I already knew that.

"I was getting my coat. Wheres Cassidy?"

She crossed her arms and gave me the eyebrow face.

"Why do you ask? Why should I tell you? You broke my heart!"

"Im sorry okay!! And I just want to know where she is! Im worried!" I yelled.

"Well.. I don't know! I heard her leave. But I don't know where she went."
"Oh, okay. Thanks."

I started walking outside the door when she stopped me.
Her hand placed on my shoulder making me turn around. When our eyes met she leaned in and kissed me.

"What was that for?" I asked her puzzled.

"Luke? Did you ever care for me the way you care for her?"
I saw the face that always made me come back to her. The face that made me feel guilt and sorrow for her. Knowing her heart was broken. She looked as if she was about to cry and her eyes were looking into my soul.

"Kay-"

Her expression changed.
"Stop, Luke. Just stop. I dont want to hear it. Forget I even asked. Oh- And my names Skylar to you now."
She slammed the door making my hair flow in the breeze behind me. I turned my body and started to walk away when I saw arrows along the wall.

What?

I decided to follow the arrows. Because, that's just not normal. Why would there be arrows pointing places?

When I turned in the corner rose petals appeared along with candles. Okay.. This is just weird.

I followed them into the elevator and found a note in the floor.

I pressed the button and waited. Why was I doing this again?

The door opened and my eyes went big and wide. My mouth did as well. They're standing in front of me were to people kissing. And what hurt the most was it being, Cassidy with a different boy.

I had to leave.
I had to get away.
But I couldn't.
I watched the guy as he put his arms around her waist. But they finally let go of each other.

What was this I was feeling? Why am I feeling this way? A way I just cant explain. I have never felt like this.. What's the word? Heartbroken? And if I have, it hasn't ever been as bad as this.

Forget about my plans to go to the hospital.. I need to cool off. I need to think about things.

I finally got the nerve to move, I ran down to the dorm. I opened the door and zoomed to the kitchen. I laid my things down and got my wallet out, which had the drawing of Cassidy in it folded up gently. I also got a pen and paper and started to write a letter.

Dear Cassidy,
By the time you are reading this letter, I will be long gone. Im taking a break from everyone.. All the drama. I would just like you to know.. That I REALLY like you! And, that I need you to not look for me. I don't know when I will be back.. But hopefully soon.

Please tell Skylar that I am sorry for bothering her.

I folded the paper with the picture and laid it down on the island. Then I walked over to the door and started to shut it after I took one last glance at the dorm.

For it would probably be one of the last times in a while before I would ever see it again.

I didn't notice it before but I was crying. Most people say boys don't have a heart.. But, this one sure does. Or at least did.

Until it was broken.
