The steam and loud noises coming from the kitchen as the staff prepared dinner for the Prince was so loud it was nearly impossible to hear one another speak. That is until the oven decided enough was enough because they only had one - giant - mouth to feed, and quieted himself down. But when he did, the first voice heard was a soft one;
"Will I ever get to see Papa again?" The teacup asked as he and his mother prepared the tea for that evening.
He asked the question frequently, and it broke his mother's heart - for she never really knew how to answer because she didn't know their chances either.
"Oh you will some day, Chip." Mrs. Potts replied as she moved herself over and onto the silver tray where her son was seated on top of his small plate.
"Do you think he'll remember us?" Chip asked as he turned his figure so he was now staring forward at his mother. He knew the enchantress' curse had erased them from the memories of their loved ones, but he didn't know that that meant his father as well. For the boy was only a child. He didn't understand why they were the way they were. He was always asking questions and following the other servants around in confusion - even after ten years.
"I'm sure he does. Because he loves us, and love can't be erased....." Mrs. Potts forced a smile as she leaned so she could give an attempt to hug her son the best she could in their situation.
The child's soft voice and heart breaking questions were heard everyday within the crumbling castle. It put a dim filling in the rest of the staff members hearts - but Mrs. Potts was affected the most. She had to watch her child live for ten years in a state where they were all just so surreal. Every night there was not doubt that each staff member went to bed wishing, hoping, and praying that the state they were in was all a dream, and they'd all wake up the next morning in their human bodies - but alas, they woke up each time feeling more rust on them than the night before and pilling over with more dust.
"All of our families love us." Lumiére could be heard chiming in as he stood on the counter beside the ice box - where the staffs meals used to be held. "Even if they don't remember us..."
"I'm sure my wife misses me." Cogsworth stated sarcastically before laughing.
"I'm sure your wife misses you like she misses her sanity." Lumiére smirked down towards the clock before hopping down from the counter, standing beside his friend.
Cogsworth only rolled his eyes. Lumiére was right.
"Our families will never stop loving us, my boy." Cogsworth looked up at the cart where Mrs. Potts and her son sat. "We just have to wait some time longer before we get to see them again."
Chip smiled at the sound of the two men tease each other, he found it hilarious. The child leaned backwards before effortlessly gliding out of the tray, off of the cart, and onto the ground as his plate clinked as it hit against the kitchens cold ground - but didn't crack.
"You really think so?"
"We know so." Plumette replied to the child as she flew down to her husband, who then pulled her closer beside himself.
Chip watched the two pull each other close - clearly trying to be romantic, but they just couldn't anymore.
"Lumiére. Plumette. Do you two have families? Are you a family?" He asked curiously with a smile as Mrs. Potts pushed the cart over to the counter and climbed on before making her way down to the ground floor.
The two, who were very much into each other at the moment, didn't even realize the child had spoken before Cogsworth nudged Lumiére so hard in the back he nearly fell over on top of Plumette.
