Chapter One- The photo

Present Day~

Elijah and Rebekah sat in the living room on the red velvet couch. The two were flipping through an old photo album from the years past. Rebekah looked over Elijah's shoulder and pointed to an old, torn, aged photograph. "Look at that... Remember her?" Rebekah raised her eyebrow and glanced at Elijah who slightly narrowed his eyes as he retraced his memory. Then he nodded, "Yes, I remember her very well. How could I forget?" For a second it was very quiet between the two siblings. They were listening to see if they could hear Klaus. After nothing was heard, Rebekah looked at Elijah and grabbed the photo. He felt a twinge in his chest, the one who got away. "We can't let Nik find this.. You know how he will react.." Rebekah said in a worried voice. Klaus was never good with handling emotions or handling sensitive topics. This one was a huge one. Elijah nodded slightly in agreement to Rebekah. "I think of her often, how cruel father was to her and to Niklaus. That has to be one of the worst things he ever did to him... to us." Elijah looked down, sighing. "Let's not discuss it any further until he is away. I do not want to trigger him into a rage."

All the sudden a slight chuckle came from behind them. Elijah turned and saw Klaus standing in the doorway, watching them. "Now, what can't I find? You do know, I will find out one way or another. You two should know better by now." Klaus smirked and stepped towards them. Rebekah clutched the photo and stepped back a step, hiding the photo in her hand. "Nothing Nik, I'm going to go sleep for the night. Goodnight brothers." Rebekah quickly turned and started to walk towards the door to exit the room. Elijah closed the album and looked at Rebekah, knowing she took the photo. "Goodnight sister." Elijah turned his attention to Klaus who looked at them suspiciously. "Looking at family pictures, are we? How is that so bad?"He quickly used his vampire speed to be directly behind Rebekah. He grabbed the photo from her hand and pulled it away from her to look at it. Klaus wanted to know what his siblings were hiding from him. Usually, the two ganged up on him frequently. Klaus liked to know everything that was going on, he also did not like to be lied to or deceived.

Klaus examined the photo, at first he didn't recognize it until he saw himself in the photo. His arm was draped around a girl, his memory quickly came back. He knew who her identity was, when this took place and everything. He froze for a moment, staring at the photo in his hand. He quickly snapped his head up and narrowed his eyes at his sister, "Why do you have this and where did you get it?" His fist clenched around the photo as he spoke to her. "I found it in the family album next to Elijah." Rebekah's tone of voice indicated she was moody and not exactly fond of Klaus' current attitude. "Sister, be polite, please." Elijah urged Rebekah due to the current situation. "Yes Rebekah, please, be polite and stay out of my affairs if you will." Klaus smirked as he responded to her, wanting her to become annoyed with him. Rebekah crossed her arms over her chest, "Why does it matter so much to you anyway Niklaus? It's a photo now, the past, a single memory. Get over it already, it happened years ago. Right before you daggered me in Chicago. Maybe you should not leave your personal belongings where any one can access it." Klaus stuffed the photo in his front pocket and stepped forward to Rebekah and raised his finger, "Take that back sister, or else." Klaus warned her. Elijah knew he better intervene before this got too far or ugly, he stood in between them. "Please, I beg you two, stop acting like this. We don't need to bicker over something like this. The outcome was quite unfortunate but don't fight over this, she wouldn't want this." Klaus looked at Elijah, feeling betrayed he'd stand up for Rebekah and to bring her up into this, "How dare you Elijah. How dare you stand up for Rebekah when you both know what happened and how much I cared for her. Rebekah was supposed to be her friend, you were too, as though I thought. It seems you never cared and I was all wrong." Klaus then turned to Rebekah to continue, "None of you care, do you? She was your only true friend, sister. The only one you'll ever have. The only one. No one else has the patience or heart to befriend you. Then you dare decide to talk about her like this... Just a memory? No. Unlike you, I loved her. She was important to me, to all of us." Klaus walked away from his siblings to his bedroom upstairs. From there, he locked his room and retired to the bed to lie down. Elijah and Rebekah exchanged looks of guilt to each other.
