The Ignes approaches. I stand there frozen, not sure what to do. I scour my brain for ideas and then come up with the oldest trick in the book of distractions. I frantically search the ground below for something to throw, but I can't find anything. I curse about this town's sanitary regulations under my breath.

I realize I have my phone on me and I search through my pockets for it. My hand grips it and I tear my arm out of my jacket. Quickly, I unlock my phone and click on the timer app. I set it to 5 seconds and choose the ringtone Beethoven's Fur Elise. I glance up and see that the fire man has gotten closer. I feel sweat drip down my back.

I crank the phone's volume all the way it can go, start the timer, and chuck it as far as I can. As I see my phone arch across the sky I think on how it wasn't such a good idea to throw away my only form of communication. It's too late though, only thing left to do is hope my plan works. It lands in a tree and breaks some branches before hitting the floor with a dull thud. The Ignes stops and turns towards the sound. I silently count down from 5.

The technified version of the classic blares out into the silence. The Ignes hurries towards the music. I have a a short window of oppurtunity before he finds the phone and realizes it was a distraction. I pull myself out of the metal art sculpture. I move to the uspide down umbrella where Lorelei is hiding and peer under it. She widens her eyes when she sees me.

"What the hell are you doing," she hisses.

"He was heading are way I had to distract him. He'll come back though we have to make a break for it."

She nods and crawls out of her hiding spot. We look back to the Ignes. He's bending down to pick up an object. We take that as our cew and sprint. The Ignes doesn't seem to have noticed us.

Lorelei turns to me and asks, "Where are we going now?"

I think about a place that hasn't been compromised. We can't go back to the school, they know I go there. If they knew about me performing at a play then they know where I live so I can't go home. Other than a few cafés and stores I can't think of anyplace safe. I don't have any friends, so there isn't anyone I can rely on. I'm about to tell Lorelei I don't know anywhere to go but then remember my necklace. I was told to use it in emergencies, and this sure as hell is one.

I grab my necklace and press the blue circle on it. I feel something sharp stab into my finger. It didn't really hurt but the shock of it made me stop running. Lorelei stops a few steps ahead of me and turns around to face me.

"What are you doing?" She violently whispers.

"I think my necklace just stabbed me."

"What are you talking about," Lorelei says as she pulls me behind a car to cover us from the park.

"My dad gave me this necklace and told me to press it whenever I'm in danger."

"Let me see it," Lorelei pulls my necklace and causes me to stumble towards her. "I've never seen anything like this before. I wonder what it is. What did you say it did to you?"

"I pressed my finger on the blue circle and it, like, pricked me."

Suddenly the necklace starts glowing and Lorelei lets go of it. Instead of it falling back onto my chest it hovers in the air just in front of my face.

"Do you need help sir? I was alerted about a predicament you might be experiencing. How can I assist you?" the voice comes out of the hovering necklace.

"Your jewelry talks?" Lorelei asks, clearly confused.

I don't say anything but I remember what we were doing before the piece of metal hanging around my neck started talking. The Ignes must have realized by now that the phone was a diversion. He's got to be close now. I focus back to my necklace.

"Um, yeah, hey. I need, I mean we need help. There's an Ignes chasing us and we don't know what to do. Can you help us?"
