Chapter 1
……
I walk through the halls with my head down listening to the locker talk. Yep, somehow the best place to have a discussion is while blocking a whole row of lockers before 1st bell.
It’s always the same thing though, you’d think they’d all get tired of it. It’s either about sports, fashion, gossip or something like that. *cue snobby voice* “o.m.g. jenny, did you see what Bethany wore today?” “I know it’s like soooo last month”…. Yeh at least you’re not having to listen to those screeching voices every day. Count yourself lucky.
Gossip around here is like wildfire, it all start with a little spark, a small phrase or comment, and it spreads out of control until the whole school knows about it.
I constantly try and keep myself out of that nonsense but of course when it happens… watch out
Of course while I’m complaining in my head I hit something and fall to the ground, my papers scattered.
<damn, did I just hit a brick wall? What was that?!>
I stop by babbling to myself and look up to see that I ran into none other but Tyler, the quarterback, with his friends following behind. They all look down at me and laugh. “Watch where you’re going nerd!” Brock and Chet laugh more while the whole group passes me by. <stupid jocks> I look up and glance back at them and see Tyler look back with this look that I can’t put my finger on. Whatever, must be my imagination. Of course then the bell decides to ring, I hurry up and grab my papers and run to class.
I sit down with a huff and turn to the one thing that makes school worth it, Melanie!
Me and Melanie have been best friends since kindergarten.
Melanie turns to me with this shitty grin on her face, “Hey girly! How it going? Did you hear Jess asked Tyler to the Homecoming Dance?”
Lol, Yep, one of the many mouths that help with the gossip, but you just gotta love her. At our school our homecoming dance has the tradition of the girl asking the guy.. most dances are like that here, I guess to make it more interesting. I don’t know. I never go to them of course.
I smile and put on a surprised face “Really? Well it’s about time.” The dance isn’t for another couple months but Tyler and Jess are quarterback and head cheerleader, oh yeh… classy couple there. Note the sarcasm.
“He said yes right?”
If it was even possible, her shitty grin got even shittier while she hops in her seat. I look around hoping no one is paying attention. Sometimes Melanie can be so hyper. “Nope! He said he’s waiting for someone else to ask him!”
If I would have had been drinking anything my poor friend would have gotten a face full! Jess and Tyler have been the “it” couple since 8th grade! I couldn’t believe it!
“He what?!”
But of course before Melanie could speak anymore the teacher walks in. Oh man! I look at her and she nods. She knows this discussion is so not over.
Ya see, me and Melanie barely have to speak… it’s like we’re mind readers… we know exactly what we mean by just a look.
Finally! School is over and TGIF! Thank God it’s Friday! Halleluiah!
When I get home I turn on my computer, Melanie was bound to log on sometime soon. In the meantime I reach on my bedside table for my Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Book. What?! Can’t go wrong with a little harry potter, it’s not like I’ve read it that many times… maybe 3…. Or 4, but this is a classic, never gets old!
