Dark brown eyes stared blankly outside of a amateur bedroom window, only flicking back and forth every now and then. The sky was surrounded with dark, thick clouds that were already teeming with rain, ready to burst at any moment. It almost looked as if the sky was having a funeral, having not a sign of sunshine or a beautiful blue hue that those eyes were usually used to. It was different to say the least, but it wasn't minded.

Slowly, those dark chocolate orbs blinked, snapping the body that they were attached to out of the daze that it was in. It took a couple more blinks, but surely that body awoke from every square inch that it had occupied, allowing the person who owned it to get up from the bed it was sitting on, walking over to a nearby mirror. The eyes looked up and down at the body that stood before him; his eyes as a matter a fact. Messy light brown hair, dark circles, irregular angel-kisses freckles from head to toe, piercings, a small frame and a tattoo that simply read 'stay alive' right above his collarbone. These were the traits the boy had seen through his eyes, traits that he honestly never really complained about.

"Josiah? Josiah! C'mon dear, breakfast is ready!"

A sigh and set of eyes roll as he made his way over to his closet, quickly beginning to rummage through hangars and drawers that held several of his shirts, sweatshirts, pants, underwear, and socks. It took him a bit, but the boy finally found something that he was satisfied for a first day look. A plain black T-shirt would be underneath a zip up dark-gray hoodie, paired with a pair of blue skinny jeans accompanied by old yet classic black converse to top it off. Nothing too flashy but definitely not something that made him look like a hobo either. He then took one last look in the mirror, running his hands through his hair real quick before heading over to his door, opening it and walking down.

A pair of shoes could be heard going down the stairs as they finally make it to the last stair, walking over into the kitchen. Josiah was met with the kind smile of his mother and the savory smell of cooked bacon on a cast-iron pan. Instinctively, he took in a deep breath of the smell, letting it calm his nerves as he walked over to the familiar figure of his mother. Kiara, the mother, gently wrapped an arm around her son, placing the most gentle kiss she could place on her son's forehead.

"How'd you sleep, Josi?"

She asked softly, showing a genuine smile.

"Oh, y'know, I slept on my back. Sometimes on my side, and if I felt brave, I slept with my face in the pillow!"

He replied sarcastically, hiding the obvious smile that wanted to appear on his face. This caused his mother to exhale a small huff of hair, reaching up to ruffle his hair a bit.

"Can you go one day without being sarcastic?"

"Nope."

Josiah grinned a crooked smile as he went to go sit down at the new and empty family table, choosing a rather squeaky and somewhat unstable chair. As he found a comfortable position to sit in, he reached for the newspaper that laid almost untouched on the scratched table, opening it up with the light crinkling of the paper against his fingertips.

"Did Dad already head to work?"

He asked lightly, eyes being occupied by the words and ads that accompanied the paper.

"Yeah, he had to get up early. He told me to tell you to have a good first day, though."

His mother said as her blue orbs were fixed on the food she was cooking on the stove, flipping a couple of eggs in a different pan. Josiah let a small sigh escape from his lips as his eyes lingered over a couple of job applications in the newspaper.
