The Nickel

Rare people in this world have some kind of magic. Only certain families have magic. All people who had magic died about a hundred years ago because people feared them. The one they missed went into hiding. About a decade ago, we decided to come out of hiding, even though we had to hide our powers and only got to learn how to use them at home.

My name is Eliza, I am 15 and live in a small town in Georgia called Bestine. I have the power of teleportation. With my teleportation I can only go back about 2 hours, so I can only go back to change minor things like if I forgot to grab my homework or lunch.

“Hey Liza!” my best friend, Sam, yells.
“Hi Sam, I have to go my mom wants me home right away,” I sighed feeling bad for her.
“Ok,” she breathed with disappointment.

I never got to talk to Sam after school because of my training. I got on my bike and started pedaling home. I heard a twig snap behind me, but ignore it because it was most likely a squirrel. I reach my house and walk to the the garage.

I lift the garage door up and walk my bike in. I wave at my dad who was summoning a fire spell to make a bike for my four year old brother. I get a slight nod of the head from him as I walk inside the house. My mother greets me as I walk into the house and I grab my spell book out of the closet safe. I type in the pin for the safe and grab my books.

I open the one about levitation spells and start doing the casting spell in my head and try lifting the nickel and it stands up on its side. I let out a sigh of relief and try to make it spin the nickel. The first attempt I failed, but then I got it the second time. Then, I hear a gasp outside my window. In curiosity, I walk outside and look around. I see nothing, so I walk back inside and continue.
It started to get dark, so I decided to go to bed. I grab a glass of water and set it on my bedside table. I pull back the covers and hop in bed.

I walk up to the sound of people at my door. That’s strange, it’s only six in the morning. I quickly throw some clothes on and put my hair up in a bun. I walk down stairs and was greeted by my parents and two unfamiliar people.

“Honey, these people are your friend Sam’s parents. They said that their daughter saw you doing magic. Can you tell these kind people this was just a misunderstanding,” my mother says in her usual kind voice.

“I’m sorry ma’am, I think she saw the fake magic I taught myself,” I say trying to as nice as possible.

‘It’s fine I thought it was a misunderstanding,” Sam’s mother responds with a smile planted on her face as she was about to walk out the door.

‘Wait, can she come her after school to study?” I ask hoping my mom could erase Sam’s mind.

“Of course,” she responds as se grabbed the doorknob and pulled it shut.

I grab my backpack and head out the door. I was in no hurry so I walked to school and listened to music. When I got to school no one was there, so I just sat there until they let us in.

“So I finally get to come over to your house!” she squeals in a very high pitch.

“Yes, but we have to walk.My mom doesn”t pick me up like your mom does,” I laugh.

We continue walking and talking random stuff until we reached my house. I knew my mom was waiting inside to alter Sam’s mind, so I let Sam walk in first. As soon as she walked in she was hit by a spell making her forget what happened to her right then and make it  look like Liza did a normal trick that day she was looking through my window.

My mom gets done casting the spell and Sam was bewildered at first, but went back to her happy self.

“So what are we going to do?” she asked very gleefully.

“Let’s go play some board games up in my room. I think I have a couple in my room. I have Twister, Scribblish, and a couple of others,” I say smiling.

We run up stairs like a couple of little kids and play some board games. Around seven we ordered some pizza and told each other weird stories about random moments in our lives and went to bed.
