Brittany
My name is Brittany Harris and I’m fifteen years old. And until a few weeks ago my small family lived in Sacramento, California. Then all of a sudden we’re moving across the country to Appleton, Wisconsin. Yeah. So now my sister and I, who is the same age as me, get to leave behind all of our friends and the neighborhood we grew up in.
My sister’s name is Jeanette and we have a little brother named Jacob and a mom. Our dad left before Jacob was born and Jacob is only eight years old. We were in the car driving to our new home and since I called shotgun, I was riding in the front with mom. Jeanette and Jacob in the back.
The window was down and my iPod blaring. I heard something in the background but ignored it. Suddenly one of my ear buds was pulled out. I grabbed it and pulled my other one out and snapped,
“What?”
“Don’t snap at me. Now as I was saying. You Jeanette have to at least try to make new friends.”
My mom told us. I turned my head to the window.
“Brittany are you even listening to me?”
“Yes,” I sighed.
“Good. Now… “
I blocked out my mother’s voice and stared outside. I only realized that we had arrived when we pulled into the driveway. When the car stopped I opened the door, grabbed my dark blue messenger bag, and looked at the house. It was big and white. There was a big front porch, trees, and bushes in the front. I went to the back of the car where mom was taking out the suitcases. I popped the handle of my dark green rolling suitcase and head to the front door. I opened the screen door and tried the inside door handle.
I sighed, “locked.”
I left my suitcase there and went to the steps to the porch.
“Mom! The door is locked.”
Without looking towards me she tossed me the keys. The keys almost hit my face. I went and opened the door, then slipped inside.
”Go and find your room out of the ones that don’t have a tag.”
I heard my mom yell. I went up the front stairs. The stairs curved up to the second story. At the top I saw two doors and to my left there was a hall. The first door had a tag. Down the hall were the back stairs and two more doors. The door facing the back steps had a tag. So did the door further down the hall. I went back to the first two doors I saw and picked the one facing the front steps.
The walls were black with dark blue, green, and purple paint splatters. There was a window across the room and a bed against the same wall facing north. The bed was a mattress on a silver metal frame with sky blue sheets and a dark blue fuzzy blanket. On the wall facing my bed was a desk and on the desk was my neon green laptop. Next to the desk was a white dresser. Next to my bed was a bedside table with a lamp and a radio clock. On the same wall as my door was a walk-in closet.
