I was sleeping on the floor of the basement on a batterred mattress, just one light next to my bed that barely lights up the space around the bed. Hear something rustling and my heart begins to race i try to summon some courage to switch on the lights at the other corner of the room. After several painful breaths of the damp cold air, I begin to smell my fear, still the moments drag on. I close my eyes and run to the switch board to press the switches and run back to the bed but the lights won't come one, and the rustling is growing. The basement is long and there is an open door at the end to the left the stairs going up to the rest of the house can be seen through the door the walls are lined with broken mirrors and the bottom are lined with cabinets the doors of which are barely hanging on to the hinges. Behind me is a solid wall, and the other side wall as well with dirty broken tiles. 'Why am I here? Why don't the lights come one ' I can hear my pounding heartbeats fill my ears.
The rustling grows, suddenly the door of the cabinet closest to me creaks open and a hand appears, my breath stops in my chest ' What do i do? What do I have to attack to save myself? Why don't the lights come on?'
There are two of them , men trying to break in the, guy is stuck and one behind him is pushing him.
I need to do something trying to force my frozen limbs to move, i get up and walk slowly to where his hands are groping at the floor tiles his hand touch my feet, my dirty bare feet covered in soot and grime and the flowing ends of my tattered white night gown reaching above my ankles. He looks up and his heart stops.
The light finally turns on and i see my reflection on the broken mirror opposite me the left side of my face completely burned down to the bone.
'No one enters my house!'
