Preparing for Battle

"The island's cursed, that's what." Ryan said as he walked to his bed, we were in the US Hellfire, hovering over the planet near island Valhalla. We were just entering our room, getting set in. even though we didn't talk about it, we all knew not to get too comfortable, for we wouldn't be there for too long. Soon we would have to be beamed down there. Something we all were nervous about.

"The island's not cursed man," replied Aaron, "I don't believe in that kind of crap."

"Oh, so the island just happened to be there when that ship crashed?"

"come on you two, stop arguing. It doesn't matter whether it's cursed or not and honestly I don't care. Now let's hurry, we're going to be having lunch soon, and we'll want to eat all we can before we have to start training. I don't know how much time they'll give us, but I know it won't be much. We aren't going to be here that long so they're probably going to try and fit as much training in as they can.

"Ok, ok." Ryan saidin a mocking tone, then leaned in and whisper to Aaron, "Well... It's pretty obvious who the stickler in the groups going to be..."

"I heard that. I'm serious guys, come on. Now isn't the time to goof around ok? We're going to go down there in less than twenty-four hours, and even though we've had a good amount of training already, chances are that if we goof off, We'll probably get ourselves killed." The room went quiet. A grim silence hung in the room, I wish I hadn't said that, but the sooner we faced the truth, the better... right? Or maybe it would've been better if I hadn't put that image in our heads... We continued settling in, none of us able to think of anything to break this silence. Finally lunchtime neared, something that would hopefully make things better.

"Well guys, it's getting close to lunch, so we'd better get ready." They start to get ready to go, obviously the mood hasn't brightened any, I smile a little, "Come on guys, that's an order! Let's get moving! Last one there gets the left overs!" they start to rush around. "There, that's more like it" I say to myself.

Soon we start to pile into the cafeteria, filling our trays. We head over to our table, sitting down. The cafeteria wasn't much, just a room full of tables, benches attached to the ground. not a window in sight, luckily we have each other to keep company, talking about our lives outside the military, some crazy adventures we've had in the heat of battle. Then Ryan speaks up.

"So, since we're supposed to be rushing, who can finish their lunch first?"

"Definitely me, you guys know that" replied Jake. Jake was another teammate of ours, he was pretty nice, although a bit shy sometimes. If there's anything he's the best at, it had to be eating. He can eat a whole lot, and fast, but since we had limited amounts of food given to us, he surely would beat us.

"I don't know... Luke can at pretty fast, and he doesn't eat as much as you do Jake." Aaron said, mocking Jake a little.

"I don't think any of us can eat as much as Jake can" I said, causing all of us to have a good laugh. We start digging into our meals, not really trying to compete with each other. Although Jake ended up being the first one to finish of course.

"I guess you guys are just to slow, huh?" Jake said with a smile.

"Well I try to, but it's kind of hard to do with you guys making me laugh every ten seconds." Katie said with a slight chuckle. Katie, or Katelyn Love, which was her full name, was great. She had smooth blonde hair that was normally in a ponytail, but sometimes in a bun. She was proof that blondes weren't always dumb and had to be one of the smartest girls I'd ever met.

"Well it's not like we try to, we just always end up having the funniest stories to tell." replied Ryan with a laugh, he's such a goof ball. A bell-like tone sounded from above, signifying that lunch would be ending soon, which means we'd better hurry, we only get a thirty minute break, and we need to get to our room so we can change into some training gear, and then we'd also have to get to the battlezone training room as well, so we'd have to be fast, can't waste time.

"So, are we all ready?" I say standing up, brushing off my uniform.

"Yep!" they all replied. We got up, put away some of the remaining trays we left out, then head to our room. Once we head to our room and get changed, we quickly rush over to where the lift would take us to the floor where the battlezone training room resigned.  The lift slowed to a stop, the doors sliding open. We headed up to the room where we were debriefed about our mission, then we got into our team, normally we would be going against some other team in battle using stun guns, kind of like a really advanced laser tag, but this time we'd be fighting a computer basically. The room we would be battling in was a fancy, biome like room, with a whole bunch of other fancy stuff. We were told that the enemies we would be fighting were invisible, so we would have to use our ears and pay close attention, if there was anytime we need to work together like a team, now would be the time. We head up to the room where we would be beamed into the room, kind of like what will really happen later when we get beamed down onto the island's base. We get ino our positions on the teleports.

    "Well guys, prepare for battle."
