Prologue

Jimmy stuffed his hands into his pockets and breathed in the damp air that always lingered in Jingle Town. His last deal of the day had finished up over an hour ago and the sky was beginning to darken. He tried to stay away from home for as long as possible, yet he knew he would have to start walking eventually. His mother would bombard him immediately with the same thing she said most days.

The school would have once again called to ask the reason of his absence, and as usual he would never have a reason, besides, " I didn't feel like going," but that would never work. He sometimes didn't even know why he didn't just drop out, he was old enough to do so. But then his mother would kick him out or nag at him to get a life, either way was bad.

He pulled out a packet of cigarettes from the pocket of his black skinny jeans and began searching other. Pockets for his lighter." Shit!" He hissed when he remembered it was in his room on his dresser where he left it last.

With nothing left to do, and knowing he would have to face his mom sooner or later, he began to walk back home with nothing on his mind but a lame excuse and the drugs he had sold.

The walk home was only five minutes from where he had stood previously. His front door was in sight quicker than he would have liked. He stood outside for a moment going over his excuse.' I went job hunting to start saving up for college.' In his mind it was good enough.

His hand rested on the doorknob and twisted it slowly. Once the door was opened enough for him to slip through, he let go and walked in before kicking it shut again.

Everything was silent.

He walked down the hall and into the kitchen where his mother stood with a letter in her hand and the house phone beside her on the kitchen counter. She looked up when she heard his footsteps enter and looked straight into his green eyes. Unlike herself, Jimmy had green eyes surrounded by thick eyeliner, pale skin and dyed black, spiky hair that stuck update in every direction. She, on the other hand, had dirty blonde wavy hair that reached her mid back, tanned skin and grey blue eyes covered in blue eyeshadow and mascara, making her eyelashes look darker and more visible.

She sighed and handed him the letter in her hands that had already been opened." It's about your dad," was her only explanation to a confused Jimmy. At the mention of him Jimmy tensed up, before sighing and opening the letter.

Dear Ms. Henderson,

We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Mr. Jack Collins. This is a formal invitation to his funeral on the 16th of April at 1:00P.M. until 3:00P.M. We would also like to invite the son you have, as he is Mr. Collins son as well, as we have come to understand. We would love to have you come and pay your respect with other guests at th Rosehill Church, Berkeley.

We look forward to seeing you,

Mr. P. Sherman

Jimmy rolled his eyes and sighed. He knew there was no way he couldn't go. His mother would make him go for sure.

" I suppose I better get my best clothed ready," He groaned.
