The silence was deafening without him by my side.
What was I going to say when he got back? Should I call him out or act like nothing had happened? My thoughts consumed me until common sense prevailed,
"If it was anything important, he would've told me about it. He is probably just up to something romantic. I mean he is Adrian, what else would he be doing?," I spoke to myself, making my throat sting after an hour of silence. As I finished my sentence, I heard the door knob turn before it swung open.
There he was.
Standing in the doorway as though nothing had happened,
"How is my beautiful wife?" I exhaled loudly, releasing the breath that I had been concealing since Adrian had left. Standing up from the lounge, I made my way over to where he stood, "We are going out tonight, my love. We leave in about an hour," Adrian spoke as I reached him. I knew he was up to something romantic. I didn't have to worry about a thing,
"Ok, well I am going to get ready. I love you," As I strolled toward the shower, I was waiting for a response,
"You too,"
The warm drops of water flooded across my skin, as I let my thoughts wash away, circle in a puddle beneath me and disappear down the drain. Humming to 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran, I started to think of the past that Adrian and I shared.
*Flashback*
"Jade, would you please do the honour of dancing with me," Adrian had asked me what I wanted to hear for the whole night at our Year Ten formal,
"It would be a pleasure," A large grin covered my face as he escorted me to the dance floor. My favourite song at the time was playing, 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran. Placing my hands on the back of Adrian's neck, his strong grip embraced my waist. We swayed to the steady beat of the music. Being one of the first times that Adrian had talked to me, nerves were taking up every inch of my body. He was the popular, athletic person at school whereas I was the smart, quiet and shy girl that not many people talked to. One of Adrian's hands left my waist. Panicked, I lifted my gaze to meet his, worried that our time together was cut short. After realising that he was staring at me, I quickly shot my eyes to the ground, trying to contain the heat in my cheeks. Adrian placed a finger on my chin, slowly lifting my head to its previous position. He gave me a reassuring smile and returned his hand to my waist.
After our dance was over, Adrian asked me to be his girlfriend.
We have been together ever since.
*Flashback Over*
Reminiscing on the past made me realise how content I was with the decisions I have made in my life. Being with Adrian was the only sure thing that I had, and for that I couldn't be more grateful. My body became cold. I must've been distracted and used all of the hot water. Whoops.
Going back to our room, I now had the tough decision of choosing my outfit. Thinking ahead, I had packed a couple of formal dresses but as I went through them, I couldn't find one for tonight. Until, I found my favourite dress that I owned. Slipping it on, I looked at my reflection in the mirror. The crimson tone of the dress complimented my slightly tanned skin. Its straps sat on the side of my arms and the fabric was tight on my bust, but then flowed into a pleated skirt that grazed the floor. It was truly stunning. Matching a pair of silver heels, some jewellery and light makeup with my dress, I was ready to go.
Walking out of the bedroom, my eyes fell on Adrian. His body was covered by a charcoal suit that showed off his 'V' body shape. It was complimented by a crimson tie that ran down the middle of his chest, matching the exact colour of my dress. What a coincidence,
"Ready to go?" I asked Adrian. His gaze was off in the distance but my words brought his attention to me. Before responding, he looked me up and down. I felt like crawling into a hole or covering my body with my arms. Did I look good enough?
"You look stunning, Jade," Adrian replied as he approached me. He took my right hand in his and lifted it towards his chiseled face, placing a small kiss on my delicate skin. Electricity shot up my arm, spreading through my body,
"Well, thank you. We better get going, babe," Adrian and I exited our hotel room. I had no idea what he had planned for tonight, but I prayed that it would take my mind off of today's earlier events.
A luxurious canary yellow Lamborghini was waiting at the foot of the stairs that led to the hotel. I could've sworn that my eyebrows raised so much that they were in my hairline. It was my dream car. The sleek look and perfect colour was everything that I wanted in a vehicle. It was perfect. A small chuckle escaped Adrian's lips,
"Only the best for the love of my life," Smiling, I shook my head in disbelief. How had I gotten so lucky to have him? Carefully tugging up my dress, I began to make my way down the stairs. Adrian sat in the driver's seat of the car while I sat in the passenger side,
"You have some courage driving this. I would be way too scared I was going to crash it," I honestly admitted to Adrian while following my comment with a laugh. He grinned,
"Hey, you know yourself that I am a better driver than that," He was right. I had been in at least three car accidents while Adrian had been in none. Lets just say that we were both lucky he was driving the Lamborghini, not me.
After a brief drive in the bustling streets of London, we had reached our destination. Stepping out of the car, I noticed the sign on the building. It read 'The Ivy'. The look of it was truly exceptional. It had an old school appearance but still incorporated modern features. Peering through the window, I found something to be strange. There was only one table sat lonely in the middle of the restaurant,
"I booked it out just for us," Adrian spoke after reading my thoughts. My heart skipped a beat. After all of the impressive things that my husband does, he still seems to always outdo his previous actions. We stepped through the extreme doorway and made our way to the table. The restaurant was beautiful in all of its entirety. Adrian pulled my chair out for me to sit down.
What a gentleman.
The table was set out beautifully. A single red rose was sat in the middle of the table atop of a white tablecloth. Adrian and I had a champagne glass each that was accompanied by cutlery. Placing my hands on the top of the table, Adrian put his hands on mine, intertwining our fingers. This was the perfect way to start our honeymoon.
Hearing footsteps approach behind me, I maneuvered my head to see who it was. A waiter was walking towards us with a white cloth over his arm and a champagne bottle in hand. He stopped beside our table,
"Hello, Jade and Adrian. My name is Harry. I will be your waiter for the night. May I treat you to a glass of champagne?" Harry had a thick British accent that echoed from the acoustics in the empty room,
"That would be lovely," I replied. William poured the golden liquid into Adrian and I's glasses before retreating to where he had come from. Adrian lifted his glass in the air, nodding for me to do the same,
"To us," He spoke with such confidence.
A toothy grin came across my face,
"To us."
