"Raise the curtain... the happiness created now is just an illusion. You need to raise the curtain and show the true ugliness of the world. You need to show what the truth is... Jakez. Jakez.... wake up... wake up." . . . Jakez Torant woke from his bed in a fright, sweating and panting as if he were in the summer heat, however he wasn't, he was in his normally cold bedroom. Jakez gripped his bed sheets tightly, looking down at his lap, thinking of the voice that just spoke to him in his dream. "What was that...?" that was all Jakez heard in his head for several minutes. After calming down, he decided to lay down and try to sleep again... he didnt.
Jakez woke up the next morning, or more like late afternoon, having no sleep, he was as tired as ever. He got up slowly, stumbling to the kitchen, rubbing his eyes. He opened his eyes with he saw banners and presents scattered all over the place, he remembered, today was his Birthday! Jakez grinned and cheered internally... however, there was one thing that upset him. There was no new feeling, or special aura with him that he could sense... nothing had changed.
You see, Jakez lives in Seramura, a universe where fantasy is the reality. Seramura is a place of powers, and how much power you have determines your rank in society. When a child turns 12, their body starts releasing a certain type of hormone called, Sera, and Sera is the equivilant to energy, when you fight, you lose Sera, and when your depleted you have to recharge, however if you go past your internal limit, fatal accidents can occur. For certain individuals, which this happens very rarely, your Sera hormone isn't released, so you dont have any powers. Jakez is sadly one of these indivduals. Anyway, back to the story.
Jakez was extremely dissapointed, the idea that he would never share powers, unlike all the other children, it makes him even more distant to the rest of Seramura than he already is. It didnt help when his mother was the retired most powerful hero of Seramura... he tried to distance himself from the paparazzi as best as he could. Powers meant everything in Seramura, if you had none, you were lower than an insect in society... Jakez didn't want that. Jakez walked into the kitchen where you saw a steaming breakfast ready for him, with a note. He picked it up and read it, the note said, "Happy Birthday sweetie! I'm so sorry I couldn't be here to see you... but you know it isnt easy to buy time when you're me, I hope you enjoy the breakfast though! Love, Mom." Jakez set the note down, he wasn't really surprised, this was usual, since his mom was so famous, there wasn't really too much interaction between the two of them anymore. Jakez looked at the "feast" before him. "Mom sure knowns how to fix a breakfast..." He thought to himself, as he picked it up and carried it to the TV room.
After he ate, he watched the news, nothing really changed, scandal, murder, accidents, new fashion statements, and Yaguri Katumari was brought up again, but then again, when your Seramura's presently strongest hero, there's not much you can do. Jakez flicked through the channels... same old, same old.
"There must be something I can do today... pehaps I'll go for a walk." Jakez said to himself, and with that, he jumped up and ran to his room. Jakez threw on some appropriate clothes, and walked out. Jakez walked through the energy shield set down by his mother, only people she authorized could pass through freely. Jakez walked down the street and noticed it was getting dark.
"How late did I sleep..." He muttered to himself, and continued walking. It was unusually empty, and quiet...
"He's closing in... should I go for him?" A woman's voice spoke at the end of the street Jakez was walking on.
She seemed to be talking on a cellphone. The man on the other line muttered something as she smirked lightly, "Got it." she responded, and hung up.
She walked into the middle of the street, and just stood there. Jakez continued walking, oblivous that the woman was standing in his way, and bumped in her, "O-OH, I'm sorry." he stuttered, embaressed. The woman just looked down at him.
