Shay's POV
:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.
"Happy Birthday." I said quietly as I looked up at the night sky.
Jake and I got home a while ago but I went straight to the backyard.
"Shay, who are you talking to?" Tanner asked me as he came to lay beside me on the grass.
"An old friend. Today was her birthday. She would've been 13." I said with a small smile.
"What happened to her?" He asked curiously.
"She had a rare disease. Nobody knew how to cure it so they said she had a little over two months to live. Those two months were awesome." I said and chuckled while remembering the days we spent together.
"Well, if she's looking down at you right now she would be glad to see and hear that you wish her a happy birthday. If I was her I'd be extremely proud to know you care so much. She was lucky to have known you." Tanner said and I smiled and nodded.
"Thanks. I just thought that you were this mean person that wasn't easy to crack and now you've proven me wrong." I said and hugged him and he surprisingly hugged back.
"Truth is I actually kind of liked you." I pulled away and looked anywhere but at him.
"Oh. That's...interesting."
"Shay, I said liked as in past tense. I don't like you like that anymore. I was just telling you why I was acting like I hated your guts." He said and I waved a hand in his direction.
"Same sh!t different toilet. I'm occasionally slow so bare with me." I told him and he laughed a little.
"Oh my gosh."
"What?" Tanner asked with a smile and had a kind of confused look at the same time.
"You have perfect teeth and a small dimple in your right cheek. You have never smiled near me so don't call me slow." I said and he laughed again.
"First of all, I smiled the day you met me. Second of all, the day you ran into me I had my braces removed after two years. Third, it's a small dimple because of my braces. They scratched my mouth a lot." He explained and I nodded in kind of fascination.
"Cool and painful. Why did you like me anyways? I'm nothing too special."
"You really are something special. I can't believe that you don't think you are. It was great talking to you and all but I have to go to the movies with a friend." He said so I nodded and he hugged me which was surprising.
"Adios." I said and he walked away and waved.
After twenty minutes of just sitting there thinking, I saw an orange spark in the bushes.
"Who's there?" I asked with little emotion because I don't feel like I'm in danger.
"A person." They anwered and I got up to go inside.
"Be very useful of your time Shay. Not every moment is promised to you. It would really be a shame to see one certain little girl be taken away first." The mystery person said from the bushes and I turned to him and tried to see his face but all I could see was the glow from the cigarette he had.
"Who are you and what are you talking about? What little girl? Please don't tell me it's Cammie or Stella." I said and started walking towards him but he started walking away.
"If I tell you who I am that will defeat the purpose of me stalking your life." He said and started walking faster until he was sprinting so I chased after him until I was out of breath and the river blocked me from crossing over to the other side of the river.
"Who are you? You must be pretty important because that's the most exercise I've had in monthes." I said to the person.
From what I could see he was really tall with kind of long hair but he had on all black.
"Done yet?" He asked me and I made a confused face.
"Checking me out. I mean it's understandable and all that but we have business to discuss." He said and I made a face then sat down on a huge stone.
"If we have business to discuss why are you all the way over there?" I asked him and he pulled up his hood then flew, yes flew, over to my side.
"There are rules. Rule number one, don't touch me. Rule number two, stop asking who I am. Rule number three, nobody and I mean nobody is to know anything about this conversation or you'll suffer the consequences." He said and I was confused, still.
"If I don't know who you are then why would I touch you? I know I do that to people but they have faces and don't stalk me." I said to him and he chuckled.
"I have a face. It's just against the rules to show you until you know exactly who I am." He said and I tried looking under the hood but I couldn't see anything there.
"You should stop trying because you won't see anything. There's a spell that blocks my face and changes my voice. They want you to figure out who I am on your own." He explained and I huffed in defeat.
"Ughhh. Who are 'they' and why do 'they' want me to figure out all these things?" I asked him as he continued smoking.
"They are who you should be afraid of. Just joking. They're those who are there but you can't see them. Everyone else around you will start to forget except for one. They wanted me to tell you that your time is almost up and things will start disappearing. In a matter of time you'll see what is really there and what has been a lie." He said and I kinda got it.
"People will disappear not things right? People will forget about things except for one of those people right? Tell me what's happening." I asked while being kind of afraid to know the answers to those questions.
"You'll know when the time comes Shay. I'm not supposed to give you answers to anything. You're a snart girl you can figure it out." With that he disappeared and I looked around but all I saw was the river and trees.
What was he talking about?
I started walking back towards the house so I could think about what he said. I don't want "things" to disappear and stuff.
What happens when everyone is gone and it's just me? Oh my gosh, how will I survive without other people to talk to and other stuff. This is...I don't even know.
I didn't even realize that I was crying a little. It makes no sense crying because I can't do anything about this.
When I got to the house I went straight to my room and got in the shower.
When I finished I went to sleep.
Life is less complicated if you're asleep.
