Where was I, exactly? Somewhere a bit far from home, surely. Not what I excepted either but, I was born there.
As a mewling, scrawny little kit, but not the runt, I was called Hollykit due to my black fur. It wasn't all black, I had a white shape on my chest. I was said to be a spitting image of my father, but for all I knew at the time, my father was Brambleclaw.
My brother, Lionkit, looked more like him than I did. Although Lionkit was a golden tabby, he was still a tabby nonetheless. Jaykit looked a bit more like my adoptive mother, Squirrelflight.Jaykit was a silver tabby with a singular white paw and brilliant blue eyes. It was such a shame he was blind- I bet he could've been the best warrior he could possibly be. Squirrelflight has a singular white paw too- but her eyes were a greenish colour than blue.
I always thought I had her eyes. Green.
Although I wailed and whined and busted my lungs out when I was born, I thought of almost everything. I thought why we were away from our 'home', why were so.. distant from other cats? I can smell it on Leafpool's fur- the herbs that clung sickly onto her pelt. Oh, Leafpool was there too- a dark brown tabby with a white shape on her chest similar to mine. She took care of Squirrelflight while we were being nursed.
I questioned myself to this day- what did we drink when we were kits, Jaykit, Lionkit and I? Surly, it wasn't milk. Maybe it was, and I could be mis-remembering something. But for all I know, Squirrelflight wasn't excepting any kits- not her own anyways.
The day we opened our eyes- we played. We were so full of energy from all the napping and laying down and blah blah blah.
Lionkit was the first one out of the nursery, bumbling with joy. Since Jaykit didnt want to play- although we both knew he wanted to- I was the only one could. So of course I joined in.
"Hollykit, Hollykit, let's go!" cried out the golden tabby I call my brother. And i'd follow him to the trees to the small stream and to the big meadow that Leafpool and Squirrelflight told us not to go. We went there anyways and oh we had blasts.
We would roll around in multicolour flowers, pink, yellow and white. It would cling to our pelts and we had to lick eachother to get it off so we wouldn't be caught. I remember this part so vividly.
He said "Shush, Hollykit, we're gonna get in trouble!" and I'd always protested back. "No we aren't, they're too far away to hear!"
"Well..!" Lionkit would start as he puffed out his chest. "Squirrelflight is a queen. She can hear things so far that even we wouldn't hear!"
"She'll hear us if you keep blabbering on!" I'd scolded back.
It was joy to us both, those spring days. We'd stay there until our first moon- we left at night so we'd make it by dawn. It was long and tiring and Squirrelflight only carried Jaykit on her back mainly because he was blind!
How fair was that? Not at all.
While he was on her bright coloured back- fast asleep! - Lionkit and I were aching with pains as we forced ourselves to say awake! We nearly collapsed when we got to the nursery! That was, after Brambleclaw was thrilled to see us that he had to learn our names over and over and over again. Not our own names, oh no. He asked Lionkit what Jaykit's name was and Jaykit what my name was and asked me what Lionkit's name was and it was so annoying! Then- oh but then he asked Squirrelflight what our names was and it was complete mouse dung.
But it was the happiest times of my kithood in all honestly. I wished I had more of it.
