I fight as a warrior against the pains of my truth
the battles contained in the war of my youth
words like daggers and eyes like spears
strength a necessity to survive these years
they say that ignorance is bliss
then say you’re naive, accepting his kiss
everyone you meet fighting the war
different battles scarring their core
faking friends and enemies
unsteady as the tides of the seas
smiles you meet later turn to sobs
trying to balance school, friends, and jobs
pressures too much to bear
dark circles and ratted hair
these are the best days of our lives
to make it through, everyone strives
bitter words and sour thoughts
throats overcome by knots
a few more months in this place
then we’ll be free from this suffocating space
