<Reuniting with Niall> Chapter 3.

London, at this point, now had me a place at their school. And, after heading home for about a week to help get everything sorted at our new family home, I will be heading to London to get everything sorted for the start of term in September. I honestly can’t wait to get to London. I’ll miss Sil of course. But I’m going to try and make it to her wedding.

The flight to Mullingar is boring and uneventful. Minus -of course- the small, obnoxious child behind me that constantly kicks my seat, making sleep or even relaxing an impossible task.

Before getting on the flight, I told one of my close friends from Mullingar, Catria McDermott, about my return. She mentioned that Niall was actually in Mullingar for a few weeks. This made me smile. Together, we had set up a plan. She had told neither Niall nor Sean nor Scott of my return. The four of them are going to be eating dinner together, four hours after my flight touches down, and I’ll surprise them with my return. The McDermott’s are actually going to meet us at the airport and help us settle in.

The pilot’s voice comes on the intercom system on the plane as the seatbelt sign flashes on. “Passengers, this is your pilot speaking. Please take your seats as we should be landing very soon. I hope each of you enjoys your time here in Ireland.” Mum and I buckle in Phoebe, Amelia and Emma to their respective seats. I’m seated next to Emma while, across the aisle, Mum is seated between Phoebe and Amelia.

“Delia,” I hear Emma’s small voice beside me as she’s clutching my hand. I’m seated next to Emma while, across the aisle, Mum is seated between Phoebe and Amelia. She has a terrible fear of heights. “Are you gonna see Nialler when we get home?” Even though she was five when we left, she kind of remembers Niall, plus she always begs for me to tell her about him.

I nod and squeeze her hand as the plane bumps on the landing strip slightly. “I’m going to surprise, shh,” I put my index finger on her lips as she laughs, “It’s a secret, don’t tell.” We laugh together. She’s always been (if I had to choose between my sisters) my favorite because Phoebe and Amelia are both so quiet, while Emma is loud and loves spending time with me, Phoebe and Amelia prefer Mum. Even though Emma’s seven years younger than me, I talk to her all the time.

People begin to stand once the sign flashes off and they instruct us that we can now exit the plane. The five of us wait for the large crowd to leave before standing and exiting the plane. After acquiring our luggage that we didn’t have flown out here before-hand, we find the McDermotts. I drop my suitcase and latch myself onto Catria. I don’t know how long we’re hugging, but I don’t want to stop. I’ve missed her so much that it’s unimaginable. I don’t even want to know how I’ll react to seeing the boys (Niall, Sean and Scott).

“Delia, I’ve missed you so much,” Catria smiles at me and takes in my appearance. Her hands instantly find my hair, “Your hair . . . looks gorgeous, I love it, don’t ever cut it short again. Ever.” Her sentence kind of rambled on with how fit I looked, and how Niall wouldn’t know what hit him.

I quickly change the subject from me to her. I comment on her now straight teeth; her thicker, longer, brown-with-a-touch-of-red hair; her height, definitely taller than me, about sixty-five inches (that’s five foot five); and her thin figure. We talk the entire way to our new home. She updates me that she and Sean have been in a steady relationship for about two years. She also updates me on life around Mullingar and how things have been a lot different since Niall left. But it’s always a big party whenever he comes home.

Just kidding. Niall’s mum, Ms. Maura, will always be there to keep each one of us in line.

We finally pull into our new home. It’s quaint, and quite lovely to look at. There is greenery in the front yard with a well-groomed lawn. The outside of the house is yellow, not bright but faint; there is a large window that sticks out on the bottom landing; and a small window that sticks out in the front from the second landing.
