The Law's Shadow - Chapter 1
Detective Davis closed the door of the interrogation room behind him and walked over to the table. He sent his partner, Detective Blake, a serious look signalling he will be leading this interrogation, and sat on the edge of the table. "Miss Hunter, Mr Campbell, thank you for joining us today." he greeted. "We wanted to have a word with you before your sister gives a statement."
The blond woman, Amber Hunter, who sat in front of him nodded and looked at Detective Blake who sent her a small, but reassuring smile. She sighed as she looked up at Davis. "We should hurry then. Haven could get really nervous in a place like this."
"We'll make it as fast as we can, Miss." Davis confirmed.
"Now," Detective Blake spoke as set his forearms on the table and leaned slightly towards the woman and the lawyer sitting opposite of him. Davis sent him a narrow look, it was his way of asking what the young detective was doing. Blake brushed it off and continued, "we have your statement from the last trial. Is there anything you would like to add to it?"
Amber inhaled deeply and looked at the lawyer beside her. Campbell nodded at her and leaned a bit towards her. "Tell them everything what you think is important. Haven's safety could be at stake." the lawyer spoke sternly, but in a voice filled with compassion for the girl.
"Okay." Amber whispered. "Okay." she repeated louder. There was a moment of silence before she spoke. "A while ago, Haven mentioned something about Philips drugging agents for better performance or similar to that."
"Do you have any proof?" Detective Blake interrupted before his colleague could ask anything. "If we can't prove it, we can't showcase it as evidence against Philips."
Amber turned her head and her glance once again fixed on the lawyer beside her."What is it, Hunter?" he asked as he read the look in her eyes. She shook her head and looked at the table. "Come on. I'm sensing it's important."
"She admitted that while going through a panic attack." the older Hunter explained slowly, almost fully hesitating to get the sentence out. Campbell sighed in an annoyed manner and leaned into the seat, crossing his arms. Detective Davis dragged his palm over his face as he stood up and walked over to the double mirror of the room.
Blake licked his lower lip before turning all of his attention to the blonde in front of him. "Mind telling me more about her panic attacks?"
"Detective Blake!" Davis warned his younger partner. Davis knew Haven's panic attacks bring worry and stress to the Hunter family. He knew how hard it was for both Amber and Logan, the brother to talk about Haven when she's going through one.
Amber looked Campbell who only nodded, urging her to talk. "It's okay, Detective Davis. Somebody has to talk about it."

Haven Hunter sat on a bench in the hallway and drummed her fingers against her thigh out of a nervous habit. Her eyes tore away from the bottle of juice her sister shoved in her hands before he went to report to the station, to the woman who stood at the end of the hallway, making Haven uneasy under her intense gaze. The unknown woman's eyes stayed fixed on her as she strode over confidently and sat next to Haven.
"Hello, I'm Detective Belmont." the woman introduced herself.
Haven turned her head away from her and stopped tapping her fingers. Thoughts of Amber ran through her mind while she wondered what was taking so long for her to give a new statement. By her thoughts, she should have finished exactly four minutes age because nothing has changed since the last trial.
