The familiar squeaks of trainers and the hammering of balls permeated the sports hall as Kageyama entered ten minutes late due to the same reoccurring nightmare that made him question his reality. It was getting to the extent where he would have to take time out of his morning routine to compose himself, affecting his punctuality to morning practice. To his relief hardly anybody seemed to notice his tardiness since they were too engrossed in their own training. Setting his day clothes to one side he jogged further into the hall trying to spot the tangerine haired midget; he had to make up for lost time.
" Yo Bakeyama! " Hinata called beckoning him over " You're late again."
" Yeah I know dumbass, the buss was delayed" Kageyama lied, swiping the ball from Hinatas hands, provoked by the nickname " and besides, I was only late by ten measly minutes."
" Every second counts " Hinata countered whilst sluggishly crouching into receiving stance. Kageyama picked up on his lazy positioning but decided not to bring it up due to the fact he couldn't waste any more time. He took a few paces backwards. Tossing it into the air, Kageyamas hand connected with the ball directing it towards Hinata. To Kageyamas annoyance it went sailing past the boy. He didn't even try to hit with the ball.
"What the hell are you playing at?" Kageyama yelled at the red head who was shielding his ears with his hands.
" Not so loud Bakayama" Hinata complained whilst stumbling after the ball which had intercepted Sugawaras and Daichis spiking practice. Hinata groaned as he continued to waver towards the ball. This caught the attention of the team mum.
" Whoa Hinata you don't look so good, why don't you sit out for a minute" Suga proposed gesturing to the bench. He looks like he's going to pass out.
" Eh? I feel fine" the ginger slurred tripping over the ball he was meant to retrieve.
" Well you're clearly not so take a break or go home."
Daichi and Kageyama watched in silence as Suga fussed over Hinatas pale complexion that Kageyama had previously failed to discern.
Finally Suga prevailed and Hinata, in defeat, staggered over to the bench. However, before he could reach the seat, the shouts and cheers of his friends became barely audible. He could've sworn he heard Suga call his name but it just sounded so...far away. He collapsed producing a loud thump that echoed throughout the hall. Simultaneously, everyone turned to look at Hinatas sprawled out petite frame. "SHOUYOU!" Tanaka exclaimed whilst franticly sprinting towards him closely followed by the remnants of Karasuno.
After a couple of minutes Hinata regained consciousness and his eyes fluttered open. He was surrounded with his teammates faces that looked like they were put at ease, well, all expect Tsukishima. Seeing Hinata conscious again caused Kageyama to release a breath he couldn't remember holding. " Nice of you to join us " Nishinoya laughed, gently pulling Hinata forwards so that he was sitting upright. After a duration of an hour that Suga took nursing Hinata, the majority of Karasuno had left to go to their respective classes leaving only Suga, Daichi and Kageyama.
" I drove as fast as the speed limits would allow" Coach panted bursting into the room. His eyes focused onto the, now conscious, boy " Oh, he's awake?"
" Sorry for calling you during work hours" Suga apologised "I would've contacted his parents but they work in Tokyo meaning they wouldn't have arrived soon enough."
" That's understandable. Come on Hinata lets get you home." As coach Ukai turned his back to the four swinging his car keys and Daichi brought Hinata to his feet, Suga approached Kageyama. I don't like where this is heading Kageyama thought instinctively stepping back.
