I shuddered as I tried to mentally prepare myself. Okay, so today on my agenda I get to fight to the death against a bunch of other kids around my age. Tommorow, if I survive today that is, I have to find a way to, stay alive. Great. I have just plotted my death! I walk to the room Im supposed to go to, on the table sat a warm mug of what I think seems to be coffee. I smiled.
"Aw, Kumquatia, you're just too nice," I laugh to myself as I raise the cup to my lips. As I swallowed the warm liquid I felt mh eyes widened. dropped the mug and it shattered into a million pieces. I coughed and gagged desperately. Then it went dark. I felt groggy, that was never good. Groggy Pepper is very prone to anger, and talking in third person. I lift my hand to rub ny eyes, and another hand was chained to it. I screamed.
"Ah, so she awakens," Chuckie chuckles. I stick my tongue out,
"So...where are we?" I ask as I pull my knees to my chest, Ilook around. People are chained together some are casually chatting, some arguing, others just sat as far from each other as possible, staring angrily at the wall.
"The arena," Chuckie whispered.
"Welcome tributes, to Alcatraz!" A voice boomed overhead. I grabbed the chain and stared through the bars. Pebbles, one of the past victors loomed above. Chuckie shuddered, but I just furrowed my eyebrows thinking. She just continued explaining the arena. As she mentioned how it would be harder to find things I saw my friend Argenta shudder. We met a few times during training, and I hoped she'd get far. It would be amazing for a blind girl to win, or at least get close.
Then a sound of zapping electricity disturbed my train of thought, I strained to see who was zapped, but could only see a hand that twitched ever so slightly. Pebbles explained we would have to wait first.
"So now we wait," I muttered as I plop down to wait. Chuckie glances at me deciding if I would be difficult to drag around the arena. Then the prison doors opened. I dashed out pulling him along.
"Argenta!!" I cried out. Argenta's chained partner prepared to use his chain to strangle her. I lowered mynhead and butted him in the stomach. He staggered back. It brought Argenta with him, but at least he couldn't exactly kill her.
Bryce, her partner charged at me. I ducked and instead he hit Chuckie. Bryce, who I suppose was just another Career, cracked Chuckie's neck. A cannon boomed. I once again charged at his torso. As he doubled over in pain I grabbed his head. I forcefully pushed it against the wall, like I said groggy Pepper is prone to anger. I continued doing it until his body went limp, his skull was dented badly, his eye nearly dangled out of his skull. I shuddered as the cannon boomed.
"So...do we have to drag them around?" Argenta shrugged
"I honestly don't know," so we did. They actually helped us a lot. Due to Argenta's brilliant mind. We protected ourselves by throwing their dead bodies on us and acting dead. I do love acting out death scenes.
While down we witnessed some horrendous deaths. Rose Picasso managed to find knives and stabbed Breeze in the eye, and stomach. Around the lungs. Breeze pulled the knife out of her eye and stabbed Rose in the heart. They both went down and the cannon boomed. Basil managed to strangle Annika with the help of Ashanti. I gulped nervously as I used Chukie as a shield. Argenta and I trudged into a room, with a table. On the table sat a bottle of water and below lay a sword. Pepper handed the sword to Argenta.
"I think you can wield a sword better than I ever can," I smiled. I held tight to the bottle, great now all we need is some water. It began to be quiet outside.
"How many people do you suppose died?" I asked. Argenta shrugged
"Maybe 5 or more. Definately more," she said weakly.
"I hope they pick up Chukie and Bryce soon."
"Yeah..." Argenta agreed. We sat in silence for a bit. I stiffled a yawn. As the death count rambled on my eyelids grew heavy. I just hope Argenta won't weild the sword into my back.
