Prologue
Keladry Massimer
Six years ago.....
I ran through the woods, my feet flying under me and laughing my head off. The green trees swayed in the breeze and branches whacked me in the face, but I didn't care.
"Come get me, Dad!" I heard feet pounding close behind me and I tried to run faster.
" Wait for your dad and I, Kel! " Mom yelled as she and Dad sped up and were now only about five feet behind me.
" Gotcha! " I was picked up and thrown in the air only to land in Dad's arms.
"Dad!" I whined, "I'm ten years old now. You don't need to carry me like a baby!" I pouted. Dad only laughed and set me on the ground.
"You're fast, Kel! Soon you're going to run like the wind!" Mom said. "By next month you're going to be in the Olympics!" Dad and I chuckled as we all walked deeper into the forest where our picnic basket and blanket sat spread on the springy grass under an oak tree. This was the best birthday ever! Just me, Dad, and Mom. No crazy Aunt Mollys or eccentric old uncles to ruin my birthday. Not this year at least.
Dad stuffed himself full of Mom's famous fried chicken while Mom and I laughed at Dad's face stuffed full with cheeks bulging.
All we did was laugh, joke, and relax, that afternoon. Racing with Mom and Dad again and climbing trees that grew to over twenty feet high. Those were the good memories of that tragic day and the worst was soon to come.
It started when my parents and I started back to the car and we heard a wolf howl.
" The wolves are coming out to eat you!" Dad teased me, tickling my side. I laughed uncontrollably.
" Dad! Dad! Pleeeease!" He finally stopped as we reached the border of the woods and were near the parking lot.
" Harold, I think we should get going. Kel's got school tomorrow. Remember?"
"You're right, sweetie. Time to go, Kel!" I ran to Dad who was with Mom on their way to the car.
"Wait for me, Dad! " Suddenly a blur rushed out of the woods behind me and tackled Dad to the gravel. I gave one look and screamed and it was as if everything froze. A wolf, as black as coal, and eyes red with madness stood atop Dad who was dead, his throat ripped out. Mom rushed to Dad's side, not even looking at the ugly beast and fell to the ground crying. Another flash came from the corner of my eye as a dark brown wolf with the same mad and bloodshot eyes sprang upon Mom who was killed in the same wise. I didn't remember what I did, I do remember my legs running to my parents but a snarl from the wolves made me back away and start running. Even more wolves emerged from the dark woods and I was surrounded. They growled menancingly at me and I cried and cried. This didn't seem real! Mom and Dad are dead because of these wolves. That was when I got angry and did the most stupid and idiotic thing a ten-year-old would do. I ran to the black wolf who flinched in surprise to see a child advance toward him and was about to punch it straight on th nose when a strong hand pulled me back.
"Whoa there, tiger!" I was picked up by hands unseen by me, but I didn't care. I howled and kicked and scratched.
"Mom and Dad are gone! Mom and Dad are dead! Let me go! These stupid wolves killed them! Let me go! " The hands restrained me as tried to break free and patted me on my back soothingly.
"It's okay, sweetie. It's okay." The female voice calmed me and distantly I heard pained howls of wolves being attacked. From that minute forward my world changed.

I hope you guys like it. This is my first hardcore novel so I'm kind of new but I'm trying to make it interesting. The next chapter(or rather the first chapter) is gonna have some explanations and maybe some action. Will try to update soon! Please message me if you have suggestions or ideas. I'm also looking for anyone who is willing to make a cover for me. :) Thanks!
