Chapter 7

Chapter Seven

    I travelled deeper into the forests, vainly trying to rid my stupid mind about Devian. How he held me, how he walked with so much self confidence, how he came toward me, how he.....

      "That's it!" I mentally screamed at myself. "No more thinking about him! He's not your mate! Guardians don't even have mates! He's a mate with some other beautiful daughter of an Alpha!" That put an end to my scattered mind quite effectively. My footsteps tread lightly over the ground as I stalked out on my patrol. Being a Guardian has its bad points....today more than any day. Devian wasted all of my precious time so now I have to make up for it by staying out here a couple extra hours which my exhausted body would dearly love to use for sleep.
      My scent was already hidden before Devian ....er.....attacked me, but now there is the problem with his scent coating me! I sighed. I guess I will have to make do.....stay downwind of those stupid mutts. I climbed into a tree and leaned against a branch, leaning my head against the rough branch.
       My eyes gazed out into he forest I loved, the forest my parents taught me to love so well. So beautiful, yet full of wonder and wildness, free and allowed to do anything you want. The dark silhouettes of the familiar trees swayed in the light breeze as silver moonbeams cast their light upon the earthen floor, bringing out sparkles of thin shreds of quartz. Alright, I've gotta keep moving.
      I started to climb down when I heard a whisper of paws thudding against the ground and the putrid smell of.....rogues. I scrambled back up soundlessly and crouched down low, eyes trained in the dim light on the direction the rogues would be coming. A shaggy dark blonde wolf came into view and I almost gasped aloud in astonishment. What in the world is Faleron doing here with no other warriors from the pack and the rogues not a mile away? He must surely smell them and would have warned Devian
      "Devian," my mind echoed. I shook my head to get it out. I thought I took care of this!
      I dropped to the ground, right in front of Faleron, blocking his path. I didn't care now if the pack saw me. Knowing how Devian is so honest with his pack, he must have told every single one of them through the mindlink about me and how I am his supposed mate. At least to him.
      "Are you sure about that?" whispered a voice in my head.
      "Go away!"  
      The wolf scurried to stop from running into me and bowed his head. What's with these people thinking I'm their Luna? I am not. Faleron must be doing it because Devian told him, after all, he is the Beta and Devian's best friend.......
      The wolf shrugged in the direction to behind a tree and crossed his eyes to look at the clothes he has holding in his mouth. I almost laughed aloud. Faleron is a a big time joker and is a magnet to the ...er....ladies of Weston High, giving him the reputation of an all time playboy.
      I gestured frantically for him to hurry, but I'm guessing he ignored it since it took him three times the normal time it takes a werewolf to shift and change, making me irritated. Not that I've seen......just know for a fact. He came out grinning a wolfish smile. How ironic.

          "Good evening, my Luna," he tipped an invisible hat in my direction. I rolled my eyes.

      "What do you want, Beta?" I tried the gruff and indifferent approach. Sooner he leaves, the sooner I can get on with my job.

      "Ooooh, touché!" he placed a hand on his chest with an obviously fake expression of hurt. Ugh, I just wish he would hurry along. A human can only go so long without sleep, and the same goes for nocturnal Guardians with jobs to do. An exasperated sigh escaped from me as I shifted my silver weapons and placed a hand on my hip.

      "Did Devian send you, Faleron? Because for the last time, I'm not his mate! So why can't you all leave me alone to do my job?" The wolf shifter stepped toward me and turning his head slightly to study me he chose to answer the last question. 

      "Because you confuse and intrigue us, Luna." His expression was, for once in a lifetime, serious. "You know about us supernaturals, our customs, mates, yet you are still human. I cannot smell you and you have silver weapons. You run as fast as any wolf, yet you still are simply human. Not to mention the secret identity with being a, no offence intended, nerd during the day, but a legendary rogue-slayer at night......" I thought about it for a second. Since he puts it that way, I could see how I'm a curiousity to the werewolves, I guess..... But Guardians are almost unknown, they wouldn't know about us. I must contact Dylan, the head of the WB(Werewolf Branch), about this.
      "Well, we all have our secrets, Faleron, and I am under no obligation to tell you, your Alpha, or the Bleeding Moon Pack my secrets. Now, for the last time, what are you doing here?" Then, suddenly, a bloodcurdling howl sounded through the forest. I totally forgot! My head snapped toward the advancing mutts and instinctively grabbed my bow and an arrow. "Get out of here, Faleron, pretend you never found me or something. I have work to do and i prefer you weren't here to distract me."

     "To answer your question, Luna, Devian sent me to protect you." He spoke calmly even though his eyes constantly shifted toward the trees. "So no, I am not going anywhere unless you accompany me." I snorted. They have no idea what I am capable of, what damage I can do. 

     "Fine, but stay out of my way." I drew back on my bow as a red-eyes glowed from the trees around us. Holy.... those are a ton of rogues...
