Violet awoke to darkness.
She always awoke to darkness.
She could still feel the serum pulsing through her veins and changing her DNA. Making her someone who she didn't know. She concentrated on the feeling of the serum moving through her body, knowing what would come next.
The pain.
Violet gasped as she felt the sharp pain moving through out her body, almost as if little bugs had made their way into her veins and were biting everything in sight. The pain was so bad that she couldn't even scream, or move for that matter. Seconds felt like hours and the pain ate away at her, it felt years until the pain finally stopped, even though she knew that it had only been minutes.
After the pain came the hunger, the never dying hunger. It was the only thing she could think of- Blood, blood, blood. She could smell it through the walls and the locked door. She could smell the blood of the scientist who worked on her. She could smell it off of the other test subjects. She could even hear it moving through out their bodies. She needed it. She absolutely positively needed it.
When the smell had almost been to much for her, she saw a small light shine through her empty room. Then, she heard a small thud and the light was gone. Violet gathered all her remaining strength and crawled to where she heard the thud, felt around, and found a bag on the floor. She didn't need to see what it was, she could smell what it was. A blood bag. She quickly ripped it open and drank from it. Blood ran down her chin and her strength started to return to her. When she was finished, she threw the blood bag to the side and looked around, shocked. She could see. A minute before it was pitch black, she couldn't even see her hand, even if it was 2 centimeters from her face, but now she could see everything. It wasn't like someone turned the lights on in her room, it was like when your eyes adjust to the dark. She couldn't see any colors but she could see perfect outlines of everything around her.
Her room was very small. It was a square room with bare walls, and a bed in a corner. There was a toilet in the other corner. To her left there was a bookshelf filled to the brim with books. Violet walked over and grabbed one of the volumes off the shelves. She flipped to a page to find that she could read every word perfectly, even in the dark. She wasn't expecting that, even though she could see the room quite well, she just thought she would see the outline of the book, not the individual words.
As fascinated as she was with this discovery, she felt fatigue come upon her. She replaced the book on the self. She walked over to the bed and laid down on it, and fell asleep instantly.
***
When she awoke, she heard crying. There was a little girl crying in her cell. She could hear her heartbeat, it was going 100 miles per hour. The little girl was scared, and so was Violet. Violet wanted to drink all the blood from the little girls veins, and she suspected that's what the scientist wanted from her as well. She fought the urge to jump the little girl. Her vision had gone black again, she could just barely make out the outline of the little girl. She slowly backed away, but the little girl sensed that she was there and made towards Violet.
"Hello? Is there someone there? My name is Lauren, can you help me?"
"Stay away from me!" Violet said urgently.
"Why? I'm not gonna hurt you."
Violet's back hit the wall, and Lauren touched her leg.
Violet lost it, and Lauren was no more but a empty corpse on the floor.
Violet cried that night till she couldn't cry anymore.
