Note: My friend Elise is writing this story now. All creds go to her.
My gut tightens as I watch the airplane intently. It was a small plane with badly painted red stripes along the wings and body of the plane. I knew immediately who it belonged to.
I raced inside calling out for Jacob. My anger at Tessa was subsiding as the fear for my life increased. "Jacob!! Tessa!" I screamed.
Somewhere in my brain a voice was saying that it probably wasn't smart to yell at a time like this, but I pushed it aside as I almost ran into Jacob. He stopped my and held my face. I panted for a few breaths, vividly aware of both of the other teens staring at me.
"They...have...a plane." I said between breaths. Jacob cursed under his breath and Tessa looked down. I remembered that I was angry at Tessa and turned away again. I looked at Jacob and the supplies they were still gathering.
"Just take what you have gathered so far. We need to go now and find a place to lay low," Jacob said quickly, "I'm fairly sure that whoever was piloting that plane saw you, Gracie."
I nodded just gathering my breath and picking up one of the backpacks turned towards Tessa. I couldn't conceal my sneer when I asked, "You've been awfully quiet. Is this something that you 'didn't think was important to tell us' too?"
Jacob gave me a look, but I didn't bother looking back at him to discover what he was trying to say. Tessa shook her head and grabbed the bag she was packing.
I knew that I shouldn't be mean to her right now. But I couldn't suppress my anger. I still felt betrayed. I lead our group as we exited the abandoned food court and started towards the exit. We attempted a steady pace, but ended up half-jogging, half-running for the case of Tessa the wounded.
I sighed as I pushed away my feelings and helped her jog-run to the car. We were three quarters of the way to the car when we spotted the plane again. "Oh no..." Tessa mumbled.
"That's my dads old plane..." She finally said. "Nice of you to mention this now.." I said bitterly. Once again, more information that could've been useful. I helped her into the backseat quickly as Jacob finished packing the car and got into the driver's seat. After getting Tessa situated, I jumped into the passenger seat.
After checking again to the plane we set out driving away from it. We were heading west now. We agreed that we'd rather double back than risk getting shot from above.
Titan sat on the floor of the passenger seat and layer his head on my legs. I rested my hand on his head and dozed off to the sound of the tires on the road and the gentle rocking of the car.
