"Luce look you've got to go, he could be a nice guy!" Jake, as always, was urging me to do something utterly ridiculous for someone like me.
I stared at him and shook my head, typing on my phone 'he doesn't know I can't talk'.
Jake shook his head disapprovingly at me, "Honey, you've got to start telling people this, it's important! And now the poor boys asked you out on a date and you're going to turn him down! Just go Luce, tell him you can't talk, it will be fine, trust your best friend!"
This debate on whether I should go went on for about an hour until I finally nodded my head and threw my hands up in surrender. Jake whooped and promised me that everything would be perfectly fine, and I messaged my date telling him the truth...
'Carl I can't speak, I haven't spoken in 4 years, do you still want to go on that date next Saturday? Lucy x'
Pressing send was a struggle but I did it, my first date in 4 years! Please go well... Carl messaged back almost instantly,
'Fine with me pretty girl, see you at 10am Saturday morning, I will come and pick you up! Carl x'
I mentally celebrated and punched Jake in the arm getting a moan followed by a scream and a warm embrace when he read the messages, so, I'm going on a date... A date... With a boy... As I processed that my phone dinged, signalling I had a message,
'Are you coming round mine at Lunch? Mums cooking pizza! Let me know.'
The number wasn't in my contacts list, so my instant reaction was to reach for Jake but then another message came through,
'Its Jace by the way!'
Jace? Do I know a Jace?
'I think you have the wrong number, my names Lucy and I don't know any Jace?'
I mentally face palmed myself, well done, telling him your name! He could find you and rape you now!
'Sorry about that, thought you were someone else, don't suppose you want to come round for pizza at lunch? lol'
I giggled which grabbed Jake's attention, he stared at me quizzically,
"What's going on?" He asked, looking down at my phone, I shook him off and pointed to the door. "Alright then I'm leaving miss boss" I giggled again and kissed his cheek goodbye before he shut the door behind himself, leaving me alone with myself.
'Sure I do, dot suppose you have Hawaiian do you?' I texted back.
'Funnily enough we do, happens to be my favourite!'
'Mine too, so where am I coming for this pizza then?'
'23 acres street, you know it?'
'I do'
What are you doing Lucy? You don't know this boy and you're going to eat at his! Are you insane? He could rape you or murder you! Don't go! Go! Don't go! Go!
'See you at 12 outside my front door?'
'You bet ya.'
What if he's 35? What if he's 12! Luce you're going to get yourself in some trouble! I took the chance to message Jake...
'Is there a Jace at our school?'
'Of course, best looking guy since Mathew!'
Even his name made me cringe... Mathew, gross!
'How'd he get my number?'
'You what? He's got your number!?! Might have been off Mathew, they were close!'
Mathew was close with the guy I was going to lunch with, Mathew. Ugh... Lucy Morgan what are you doing. I didn't message Jake back and chucked my phone on my desk and threw myself on the bed... 3 hours till 12... Okay, good luck Luce!
