Selma's POV

I stared out the window of my flat at the view of the busy London streets below. It was a sunny Saturday morning in May and cars were bustling down the street and people crowded the sidewalk, their destinations unknown. I sat comfortably on one of the two small black leather couches in the living room as I munched happily on my delicious corn pops. The TV blared loudly in the background.

“G’ morning, Selma.” said my best friend Casey Scown as she entered the living room.

I tore my attention away from the window and responded “G’ morning.”

Casey’s normally vibrant green brown eyes were now slightly bloodshot, her blonde hair was dishevelled, and her pink pyjamas were rumpled. She gave me a swift half smile and her figure disappeared into the kitchen across the hall.

I used to live in Canada before moving to London last summer. It had been my lifelong dream to live here and my parents finally agreed after my incessant begging. I had spent over a year working in a dingy diner located near my house in Montreal and finally raised enough money to start my life over here. I had despised that job but it was well worth it. I got accepted to one of the many colleges in this city and lived in the school’s dorm for the first part of the year as I studied to get a degree in English literature in hopes of becoming an author. I met Casey, who’s in the art program, on campus one day and we became fast friends. I ended up moving into this flat with her. We were now close to completing our school year and we had just been released for spring break.

Casey’s head popped out of the kitchen. “Do you want to go shopping?”

“Sure.” I agreed. I really needed to stock up on new clothes for the summer.

I got up and went to put my bowl in the kitchen. I then went into my bedroom that contained a single bed with a dark purple comforter, a nightstand, a small desk cluttered with textbooks and papers, and a closet overflowing with clothes. Countless One Direction posters covered my walls. I had instantly fallen in love with these five boys after I found out about them.

Casey was also a fan but for some odd reason she despised Liam Payne. No matter how much I coaxed her she would never tell me the reason why. I don’t get it; she doesn’t even know the guy.

A little while later I had changed from my sweats and baggy t-shirt to dark wash skinny jeans, a purple scoop neck shirt, and my well worn black converse. I examined myself in the bathroom mirror; small chocolate brown eyes, curly brown hair, and small freckles that adorned my cheeks.

I’ll admit I used to be very insecure about my looks when I was younger but I was now eighteen, almost nineteen, and had grown to embrace my features. I smiled at my reflection before leaving the bathroom and joining Casey.

She wore a flower patterned skirt that landed mid-thigh, a light pink tank top with a black cardigan, and basic black ballet flats.

“Ready to go?” she asked me.

“Yuppers!” I replied, and quickly grabbed my favorite black D&G purse off the floor.

We didn’t have a car since neither one of us had attempted to learn to drive yet so as always we walked over to the mall.

“Okay, which places do we need to go to?” I asked excitedly. I always enjoyed a good shopping spree.

“River Island and Republic.” Casey said.

“Then off we go!” I exclaimed, and skipped happily through the crowded mall. I think those sugary corn pops I had for breakfast are getting to me.

We entered River Island and started looking through the racks of clothes. As I was examining a colorful blouse, Casey nudged me on my side with her elbow.

"What?” I asked, and looked at her quizzically.

“Look at those guys over there.” she said, and pointed discreetly. I followed the direction of her pointed index finger and saw five guys dressed funnily. They all sported dark sunglasses, mustaches, and hats. I squinted, their mustaches looked fake.

I then realised that they were disguised. But why, I questioned myself as I tilted my head sideways in confusion. For some reason, there was something oddly familiar about them but I couldn’t recall from where.

I frowned and looked over at Casey who gave me a mischievous grin, her dimples showing. Uh oh.

“I dare you to go over there and take one of the guys’ disguises off.”

“Oh God, I’m not doing that, Casey.” I said. Call me a wimp all you want, I hate doing stuff where I could potentially embarrass myself.

“But I dared you. You can’t refuse a dare.” she countered.

“But I don’t want to.” I whined childishly.

“How about this, I’ll do it with you.” she said.

“Deal.” I finally agreed, and grinned widely. This will be a whole lot better if I’m not alone.

She grabbed me by the forearm and we walked as casually as possible to the group of guys. Luckily their backs were to us. Casey raised three fingers and winked at me.

We counted to three in our heads and then we both tapped on one of the guys’ broad shoulders.

The stranger turned around and I swiftly tore off his mustache and sunglasses before I decided to chicken out.

I was about ready to bolt and run like a maniac out of the store but then I looked at the person who stood in front of me.

My breath caught in my throat and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets as I took in Harry Styles’ shocked expression.
