“Look at her, Darrell” an aged woman voice cooed and I reluctantly did.

She stood there clutching the cold metal twisted and drilled in to prevent a 50-feet free fall that would inevitably bring on a painful death. Slender and beautiful, she leaned into the night, deliberate hands smoothing down non-existent crinkles in that dress that hugged her body nicely with a floor sweeping skirt, the dark blue material matching her ocean color eyes. Pursed full lips and flushed rosy cheeks, she was breathtaking, her creamy complexion shone under the night sky lamped by a bright yellow moon.

I forced my unwilling eyes away, determined not to fall prey in the games of the vile creature next to me,the demon disguised as an old withered woman for tonight. It had no face so it assumed any person's identity freely. It had no voice yet it spoke to me clearly. Sinister in nature, it loved playing games with people’s life and cunning as it is, it always got its way.

“She’s miserable, you know.” It crowed. At those words I looked sharply at It. A sigh escaped quietly from the balcony, she stood all alone, unknowingly affirming its words somewhat.

Many yards away from her I sat with my two feet dangling over the top edge of a sky rising tower. My head buzzed with one unanswered question. It’s her birthday. She’s at her own party, people around her merrily having a blast in her honor, clinking tubes of bubbling golden liquid, sipping them slowly. Some danced in pairs to the music of a piano playing in the in background. But she wasn’t having a good time with them. Instead she chose to steal herself away from all of it, to stand in the cold lonely balcony and stare at the sleeping city. Why??

“Look at her! So lovely, so breathtaking yet so lonely she is, on her very birthday. Doesn’t it pain you to see her this way?? Go to her, my prince. Free her from this misery. One kiss is all it takes, Darrell Grey.”

The demon sent me fast flying off the edge with a clawed push. I shook my wings open, spreading out its fine grey feathered glory. Wind beat about me with every rise and fall of my wings, I swooped towards the raven haired blue eyed girl by the balcony. I landed silently behind her, tucking every feather away from her sight. Eager to see those dark sky colored eyes face me, I whispered a call to her.

“Ruby Alice” She turned quickly, squeak in surprise, guilty of being caught in her hideout. Her striking gaze bored into mine. A shy smile graced her ruby lips but they didn’t light up her face like I knew it wouldn’t. Polite enough to fake happiness for her guest, she was.

Just one kiss. Slight brush of a devil’s lips. A quick death snaring kiss from one of hel’s prince. She’d see eternal peace. It’s for the best, I told my heart. Yes, she’d be dead. A painful dead too. But the hurt in her eyes were way beyond the slight discomfort of dying.
