"I can't do this. I can't do this."
"Stop it."
I stared at him, his green eyes boring in to mine. I could feel his stare, it was like goosebumps on my thighs in the cold, or a shiver through my bones.
His tender hand touched my rough skin before he left a peck on my head, holding the back of my neck with his fingers entangled in my hair. My heart beat sped up and I could feel his too, right against my shoulder.
"I don't want you to go anymore, Todd. I can't do this."
"Hey," he whispered. I stared at my feet, fiddling with the zip on his jacket. "Val, look at me." I did as he asked and stared at him, blinking back all the tears and fear that clouded my eyes. "Valerie, I'm not going anywhere. I'm not having this happen. Not this time. I'm not going."
I sighed, gripping him tighter. "I'm trusting you. I haven't trusted someone in a very long time and I'm trusting you right now, Todd."
"Good."
