CHAPTER TWO

FRIENDSHIP.
Ring!Ring!Ring! I looked at my phone to see who was calling at this late at night. I looked at my bed clock and it was 1.30 a.m. I wiped my eyes with my palms and looked at my phone again. It was Claire. I wondered what was wrong.

"Yes bff?",I asked waiting to be answered.

All I heard were sniffs and sobs.She then hanged up. I tried calling her but she wasn't picking up. I was getting worried and anxious. I decided to go to Ronnie to seek help. I got out of my room and knocked at the room opposite mine,Ronnie's room.

"Who is it?Please go away,"he said in his sleep.

I opened the door and got in. I switched on the light and saw him cuddling Ania's photo frame while sleeping. I started giggling and that woke him up.

"What.....What......What are you doing here?"he asked as he stammered and wiped his eyes to see me well.

He threw the photo frame to his couch and threw a blanket to cover it. He thought I hadn't seen it. How wrong he was! He looked at me again then at the photo. I started giggling again.

"What do you want Pheebs?Get out of my room,"he said while dragging me out.

"Hey!Let go!I came here cause' I want your help. And I saw you hugging Ania's photo frame. You really do love her alot,don't you?"I asked him while making fun of how he held the photo frame when I came to the room.

"Fine. What do you need help with? And it better not be about your boyfriend."he asked now ready to help and making fun of me.

I ignored him and told him everything that happened at school with Claire and her boyfriend. Then I told him about the call I received and she was crying and sobbing.

"Am telling you Ronnie,something is wrong with Claire. I need to go see her now. But how will I leave the palace?",I told him worriedly.

"Fine.I will help you",he said unwantingly.

He knew he didn't want to do this but he had to help me. It was a matter of my best friend. We got to the ball hall and he opened the gigantic door. He hugged me and told me to be careful. I asked him to cover up for me and he accepted.

I took my car and off I drove to Claire's Empire.It was very far but I hoped to get there safely. It was a drive of about 2 to 3 hours.The journey was tiring but finally I got there. The Empire was very quiet. I drove into their castle. I opened their door and got in. I went straight to Claire's bedroom.

I knocked thrice but no answer. I decided to open the door myself. No sooner had I gotten in,only to find something unexpected waiting for me. Claire was there on her bed lying unconciously,pills all over the floor and bed, a razor on her bed and blood oozing out of her wrist.

Oh My Ghoul!She cut and drugged herself. I went straight to the castle's bell and rang it thrice. Everyone in the castle woke up. Claire's parents were surprised to see me there. I told them everything I saw.

We all ran to her room. I cuddled my best friend. The ambulance was called and suddenly,

"Pheebs,am sorry. I was never a good bestie to you. Please forgive me,"she said unconciously.

Tears trickled down my cheeks. I cried continuosly while hugging her. The sirens could be heard from outside. Claire's mum got into the ambulance with her while her dad and I drove in their family car.

I was dead worried about her. I couldn't stop crying and thinking about my best friend. What if she leaves me?How will I be?Whom will I tell my secrets to?These were the questions I kept asking myself. I covered my face with my palms and cried on them.

HOSPITAL.
"Claire my dear,don't worry. You will be fine,okay my dear?",Claire's mum told her as soon as we reached the hospital.

The doctors were very fast.Within 3 minutes,Claire was taken to the Intensive Care Unit(ICU.).I was so afraid.I neither slept nor ate.I moved about in the hospital,saying an impromptu prayer. Claire's mum was crying profusely,her father was comforting her.

"Its okay my dear. She is a strong girl,"he said trying to comfort her.

"She is my only baby. Oh God above,please protect my baby. Please,"she prayed to the one above.

I felt pity for them. They are her parents. At that moment,nobody could do anything. It was between the Lord and the doctors to save her. I decided to sit and relax since I had faith in my Lord.Suddenly,my phone rang. Everyone looked at me.I excused myself to answer the phone. To my surprise,the caller was Max.

I took a deep breath and answered the phone. Controlling my emotions,

"Hello",I replied.

"Hi! Phoebe are you alright?The Headmistress is asking for you. And your brother isn't saying anything.What's wrong?",he asked worriedly.

I hanged up and thought why he called me. We have no affair at all.

What does Max want from Phoebe?Is he in love with her?Will Nicholas confess his love to Phoebe?Will Claire survive death?
