Dean awoke to the sound of Metallica. He groaned. Great, school. He flopped over and hit the snooze button then rolled right off the bed. As he yanked on a t-shirt he heard Sam walking down the stairs. He quickly finished dressing and raced into the kitchen. Sam was sitting there, coffee cup in hand. Dean opened his mouth to demand his own cup but Sam quickly shushed him. He pointed to the counter where Dean's cup was already made.
"No talking until you're actually functioning."
Dean gratefully gulped down the hot drink before pausing. "Why are you being nice?" He asked, suspicion leaking into his voice. "Usually, I have bug you at least twice or make it myself." Sam grinned but said nothing. Dean looked down into his coffee as horrified realization crossed his face.
"What did you put in here?"
Sam's smile grew. "I guess you'll have to figure that out, won't you?"
Dean dumped the rest of the coffee down the sink, grabbed his bag, and walked out the door.
"Have fun getting to school, bitch," Dean shouted over his shoulder.
Sam scrambled after him when he realized that Dean wasn't planning on giving him a ride. He raced out the door only to see the Impala pulling out into the street. Dean stuck his head out the window and smiled. That's when Sam knew he was in trouble.
"You shouldn't've done that Sammy. I'm gonna have to get you back for that." He grinned. "Let the Prank Wars begin."
With that, Dean raced away, taking with him Sam's only way to get to school.
As Sam turned to go back inside, a car rolled up. "Hey, need a ride? You go to LHS, right?"
"Uh... yeah, yeah I do. You go there?"
"First day. My family and I moved down from Portland, Oregon a couple weeks ago. Hop in."
Sam glanced back at the house before looking back to the car.
"Alright, I guess I should know your name if you're driving me to school."
"Me? I'm Gabriel, Gabriel Novak," said the guy in the car. "What's your name?"
"I'm Sam Winchester," Sam said as he climbed into the car. He glanced to the back of the car and was surprised to see someone already there.
Before Sam could say anything, he spoke. "Hello Sam, my name is Castiel. Gabriel is my brother."
"Oh, hey." Sam turned to face Gabriel as he started toward the school. "So what grades are you guys in?"
"I'm a junior and Cassie here is a senior," Gabriel responded. "What year are you in?"
"Oh, I'm a sophomore, but most of my classes are junior and senior classes. My brother is a senior. He's the one who left me with no way to get to school."
"Well, that's not very nice!" Gabriel exclaimed. "He shouldn't have just left you here." Sam glanced out the window and noticed that they were already in the school parking lot. He turned out back in time to see Gabriel swing into a parking space that looked far too small for the car they were in.
"Gabriel, watch out!" Sam cried out.
Castiel laughed from the back seat. "Sam, he's just messing with you. He did that specifically to see your reaction."
Sam sighed in relief when the car finally stopped moving. He quickly unclipped and opened the car door.
He climbed out and grabbed his bag. He turned to close the car door and noticed that Castiel had not yet gotten out of the car. He reached to open the back door but Gabriel stopped him.
Gabriel went around to the back of the car and opened it up. He then proceeded to remove a motorized wheelchair and push it over to the door Castiel was closest to.
Castiel reached over and pushed the door open. Gabriel stood by the car and allowed Castiel to use him as a handhold to pull himself out of the car. As Castiel settled himself into the wheelchair, Sam noticed his bottom half didn't move at all. He started to ask why but Gabriel quickly shushed him.
"It's hard enough as it is! He doesn't need you reminding him what happened," he whispered harshly.
Castiel twisted in his chair. "Gabriel, I told you I can hear you." Castiel sighed. "There's no need to whisper when I can hear you and I know exactly what you are talking about anyway."
Gabriel sighed in frustration. "How do you even do that? I wasn't anywhere near you and I was whispering!"
Castiel glared witheringly up at Gabriel. "You know exactly how. After the—," he tensed and glanced at Sam as if just remembering he was there. "After the accident, all my senses have been heightened."
Gabriel looked down in embarrassment. "You're right, I'm sorry. I forgot."
Sam shifted awkwardly. "So, do you need help or anything?" He gestured vaguely at Castiel. "I can help you find the office or something." He looked around, clearly uncomfortable.
Castiel sighed. "As much as Gabriel would love to spend the rest of the day with you, you should probably get to class." He pulled himself upward and whispered in Gabriel's ear. Gabriel flushed and nodded.
"Bye Sam."
