The Silver Blood pack is the strongest pack in the world. Everyone either loves or hates the leaders of this pack. New leaders would soon take the thrones of their parents, but their places weren't secured unless they have their mates by their sides. The children had grown into strong wolves (and vampires) but they had no luck in finding their other half.
All the while, their parents were fighting a pressing problem that had begun before the kids had even been born.
Children were going missing and their parents were being killed.
The police were baffled. The kidnappers left almost no traces behind. The only clue was a single pitch black feather. One by one police departments across the U.S. dropped the case, under the assumption that it would never end, until only one was left. This department handed it over to their most prestigious task force.
Their mission was to find the children before it was too late.

"This is..."
"Horrible? A nightmare? A scene out of a horror movie?"
"I was going to say disgusting, but those work too." The lead detective looked up at her colleague from where she was crouched near the body of a young mother. "Who would do this to families? Especially ones this young?" She gently placed the bloodstained sheet back over the woman's face.
Her colleague sighed. "I don't know." He looked around at the people crowded outside the police tape. "This happened in the middle of the day. There is no way this could have happened without someone seeing it."
The lead detective stood up, and looked at the crowd. "I don't think there will be a witness, Lee," she said. "There weren't any other times."
"I found out who was taken," another man on their team said as he walked up behind them. "It's a little girl. She's five years old." He handed them both pictures he had found in the house. "Her name is Emily."
"Thanks, Jayden," the lead detective said, staring at the picture.
"Nessa," Jayden said urgently. When she looked up, he said, "That man over there has been staring at us ever since I came over here."
Sure enough, at the edge of the police tape stood a man with striking blue eyes. He was staring straight at them with a hard look in his eyes. When their eyes fell on him, he nodded and faded back into the crowd.
"Well that was creepy," Lee said.

After a long five years, the team still wasn't any closer to figuring out the case than they were at the beginning.
Then they were contacted by Christian Gallagher, the Alpha of the Silver Blood Pack.
***
"Why are we all here again?" Lee asked. "This place is a dump. A literal dump."
Nessa was about to respond, but a voice in the dark cut her off.
"You're here because you need to know what's going on."
A man with black hair strode out of the dark, the man from the crime scene stood behind him.
The man surveyed the team before smiling and saying, "Let's get started, shall we?"
***
The team learned all about the supernatural that day. The Alpha and his Beta, Martin Thorne, detailed everything they wanted to know and entrusted them with the location of their territory and the pack house within.
Why would they trust ordinary humans with this information, you ask?
"Because the people kidnapping these children aren't human," the Alpha had said. "You need to know what you're up against, and we can't find them alone."
***
Two years later, a baby was dropped off on the doorstep of Jayden's new house just outside the pack's territory. The boy was left with a note saying that he was Jayden's son, and that the baby was his responsibility now.
The baby's name was Lance, and, out of fear, the team never let him know about the supernatural. They didn't want the small child that had wormed its way into their hearts to be ripped away by kidnappers or killed by rogues. The Alpha respected their wishes and made sure that the pack didn't go anywhere near the child.
Lance was a curious child and always got into things he wasn't supposed to. The team didn't think much of it until he broke into their secure files and almost accessed their documentation of all the species of shifters in the world. They knew then that he would find out one day, and they most likely wouldn't be the ones to tell him.

Well, this is my first attempt at a non-fan fiction story. It is also my first attempt at a story that is actually written well. I hope you enjoy it!
