"Remember, the Johnson's are coming to town next week!" I heard my mom shout. Wait, what? I froze mid-step. Who are the Johnson's?
"Umm, who?" I asked as I stood there confused. "Remember your father and I had those friends in high school who used to visit all the time?" I still had no idea what she was talking about.
"Yea, sure." I responded quickly, already regretting asking, just to get myself out of the conversion.
I was tired, I just wanted to go up to my room and sleep.
So who are the Johnson's? I laid in bed with that thought stuck in my mind. I wonder if they have any kids, maybe I'll get a best friend out of this. Is this really going through my mind right now?
...
BEEEEEP!
Damn, my alarm felt like it was screaming at me. When I finally had the energy to open my eyes, I saw the clock: 6 am. I found my phone next to my bed on the night stand. Two new texts.
Brianna: am I driving you to school today?
Ryder: hey!
Great... Ryder texted me. Anyways, I should probably reply to Brianna.
"Yes please." I typed even though I was still half asleep.
"Ya know, your brother could start driving you sometime." Brianna had this weird talent that she could reply to texts incredibly fast. "See and that's why you love me, because you drive me to school everyday:)"
I set my phone down and thought about it. My brother Jason was a junior at Armour Heights. We didn't necessarily get along and surprisingly he was the among the popular group. He had girls all over him and was such a player, I guess his brown spiky hair, green eyes and muscular figure did the trick considering he was a jerk. Plus he would never be seen with his loser sister.
...
I'm Lexie. I'm a 16 year old sophomore who goes to Armour Heights High School. UGH. Not ugh to the school, more like ugh to people at my school. I can't stand freshmen who like they're still in elementary school. I can't stand the seniors who act like they run the place. That leaves me with juniors and sophomores. But I don't really know juniors, so that leaves me with sophomores. Don't get me wrong, I have a couple friends to enjoy the whole high school experience with but I can't wait till it's over.
...
DING! I finish brushing my knotty black hair, grab my bag and run downstairs. I see Brianna's car in my driveway. "Mom! I'm leaving! I'll see you after school!" I yelled to my mom. As I open the car door, Brianna greets me with Starbucks coffee.
Why is she in such a good mood?
"Well good morning to you too!" She said as I kept the surprised look on my face. "Morning." I responded, "why are you in such a good mood?" I asked slightly concerned. It was silent for a moment.
"Adam and I are dating now!" She said as if she'd been holding that in for days. "I knew it!" I shouted in the car.
"Shut up!" Brianna said smiling.
Brianna and Adam danced together at the winter formal and have had a thing ever since.
"So tell me." I said breaking the silence that had been in the car. "Tell you what?" She said dumbfounded. "How he did it! DUUH." I screamed back to her.
"Okay, okay. It happened Saturday. we went on a date, seeing one of those chick flicks that came out Valentines Day. it was a romantic movie of course, so we held hands almost the entire movie. After it ended he offered to go get some frozen yogurt and WHAAALLA. He asked me to be his girlfriend!"
I kind of zoned out during her story. I knew they would end up dating eventually. It was one of those relationships where everyone knew they liked each other except for them.
As Brianna pulled into school parking lot , I notice a huge crowd gathered in the center of campus.
"What the hell is going on?" I asked Brianna not realizing that she would be just as clueless as me.
"I dunno know. Maybe a fight? We haven't had one of those in awhile."
We both got out of the car walking up to the circle of students. Brianna was right. A fight. I could tell James Parker was involved. But who was the other kid? Probably an upperclassman because I didn't recognize him.
"Do you know who that is?" Brianna asked me as she kept staring at the fight.
"No idea." I shrugged my shoulders.
"He's kind of attractive." I said bluntly. "See, I disagree" I turned to glare at her. "He's more than kind of... He's probably the sexiest boy here."
"Brianna!" I shouted as I slapped her arm. "What? I'm just being honest!"
We both stood there in the crowd listening to them chant "Fight! Fight! Fight!" And watching as the hall monitors ran up to break them up.
After watching both boys get pulled apart and drug into the office, I ran into a couple girls in my first hour and tried to catch up to them. I wanted to ask if they knew anymore because with me being so damn curious I just have to know every single detail for an unknown reason that I honestly didn't understand.
.............
My day was quite uneventful. I went through my 6 classes bored out of my mind wanting to shout dumbass to the annoying kids in my classes. I typically want to just slap some sense into most people.
"Can we stop at circle k? I'm thirsty and I actually have money today." I asked Brianna. "Sure. So how are you and Ryder?" "UGH!" I groaned. "You know I don't like him!" "Haha, yea I know but it's pretty fun to tease you. I'm pretty sure he's in looovvvee with you" Brianna purposely dragging out the word love."Just because he wanted to ask me out last year doesn't mean anything." "Yea sure." Another sarcastic remark from Brianna's big mouth. "We are friends okay? Nothing else to it."
I wasn't mad, but honestly, this whole teasing me over a guy who never actually asked me out was starting to get on my nerves.
We pulled out of the parking lot right as I feel my phone buzz.
Mom: the Johnson's came early, I want to introduce you to them when you get home.
"Looks like the strangers are here."
Brianna gave me a weird look.
"My mom wants me home soon so I can meet the Johnson's." I said. "I thought they were coming next week? Plus you never told me why they were coming." Brianna asks. "Me too." I continued. "Apparently they are staying at my house for awhile until they find a house here in Arizona. I think they're from Chicago." I explained. "Ooooh! I wonder if there will be any cute boys our age staying at your house now!"
She screamed. We both got out of the car and started walking to the front door of my house.
"Brianna, seriously? I explain the situation to you and all you can think about is boys? I swear, you're totally boy crazy and you have a boyfriend now soooo shush!" Brianna pushed me into the door as we walked in. "You're such a bitch." I said sarcastically. "Haha, calm yourself, Lexie." Brianna said while laughing. "I'm pretty calm actually." I replied with a smirk.
"Lulu! We're in the living room!" My mom shouts.
Brianna and I both make our way through the front room and into the living room. The first person I see as I enter the room, makes direct and awkward eye contact with me. I turn to Brianna as she's already staring at me. It was the kid in the fight this morning.
No way is this the kid staying at my house.. And why did I not know about their ages? What the heck mom, why doesn't she ever tell me anything for once.
