CHAPTER 1: THE PIANO

The musical melody soared through the house and made my heart pound. I knew Dad's compositions were good, but this was beautiful. I stood there at the door, my school bag slowly sliding down my arm. It sounded so familiar. The tune wasn't new...I just had never heard it on the piano before. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Alice said softly from the doorway. I nodded, walking slowly to the dining table. "Do you know who Edward composed it for?" I looked up at her. Dad had composed this for someone. Good god. "Who?" I asked in a small voice. The song ended and a new one with a happier, more frisky melody started to be played. "Who did he write it for?" I whispered. Alice smiled. "Bella," she replied. My mouth dropped. "That was for mum?" I cried. "Sure was," Mum said, coming into the room. "He played it for me the first time I ever set foot it this house." "Awwww, how romantic," I gushed, leaning over the table for a chocolate biscuit. I usually hated human food...chocolate biscuits didn't count. Mum and Alice laughed. "What's so hilarious?" Emmet called from the living room. The song playing ended. "Play another one!" I begged as Dad also came into the kitchen. "Play that first one again!" "What, the lullaby?" Dad asked. "Yes, that one!" I cried. "Wait...that's the song that you guys used to play for me when I was little, right?" "I knew she had good memory," Mum said.

"Please play another one!" I begged. Dad sighed and walked back upstairs. A few minutes later a slower, sort of sad tune started to play. The door opened and Carlisle walked in, back from work. "I haven't heard this one in a while," he said, putting down his briefcase. "Yes, this is the one he called 'Dream'," Alice said. "He hasn't played it in two years." I took another biscuit and sighed. "I wish I could play an instrument. They're just so HARD!" "You've only tried one," Mum said. "Piano." "So?" I said defensively. "It's difficult!" "Well Jasper's got a guitar up in the attic," Alice said. "You could try that." "I'll try," I grumbled. Mum's lullaby pierced through the house once again. Suddenly, I felt like my father loved her more...far more than he loved me.

The next day, when I came home from school, I ran into Jasper's room. "Jazz, can you teach me how to play guitar?" I asked. Jasper looked up from his book. He looked surprised. "Why do you need me to teach you? You're so smart you should be able to work it out for yourself." I growled angrily and stormed out. This sucked! No one had faith in me to learn an instrument! Oh well. I went to my room and turned my stereo on, plugged in my USB and played all my favourite songs. I sighed and looked at my poster of Green Day. Nope, I wasn't going to be a musician, that was for sure. "Hey, Nessie," Alice said. "Come here." I got up, stopped my stereo and followed her upstairs to the room with the piano in it. She gestured to me to come closer and I carefully made my way to the piano. Alice pointed to the papers which were on the stand. They had the music of the song that Dad had played after the lullaby. Then I squinted and saw at the top, the title: 'MAYBE: Renesmee's song.' My mouth went dry. Dad had written me a song. "See?" Alice said, putting her arm around my shoulders. "You mean just as much to your Dad as Bella does." I nodded speechlessly. Alice smiled, kissed my forehead and danced out of the room, leaving me sitting on the stool, staring at the music of my song. I looked around, then shuffled through the music until I found 'RIVER FLOWS IN YOU: Bella's song.'I looked carefully at the music, and placed my hands on the keys. Then I played the first bar. It wasn't so hard. I'd listened to Beethoven and Mozart from the age of six months and knew all the notes in the musical gallery. I decided to give the song a shot. After playing the intro, my hands seemed to slide across the keys, and the lullaby rang out into the room, echoing with the shut windows and it danced through my ears. It sounded even more beautiful when I was playing it myself. I reached the end and let out a deep breath. I could play mum's song. Could I play my own? I dropped RIVER FLOWS IN YOU to the ground and found MAYBE. I played the first line and found myself playing an entirely new octave. The song sounded like me. It had happy parts which sounded amazing, the sad parts which were sorrowful but beautiful at the same time. There were parts were they were complicated and confusing and the left hand kept changing. I picked it up...but Dad hadn't just written a song for me. This song was me. I played the last line, the happiness, sadness and confusion altogether at the end and found tears in my eyes. I finished playing, and wiped them away fervently. The song was still ringing through my ears. I looked at the music again, pulled my legs up to the stool and buried my face in my hands, crying.

I managed to stop when someone came and sat beside me, and Dad pulled me into his arms. He started to play a new song, one I had never ever heard in my life and I looked through my tears to find a piece of music named KISS THE RAIN. "Who's this one for?" I sniffed. Dad smiled. "You," he said. "I wrote it two years ago, along with DREAM. I wrote this one when I thought we would loose you to the Volturi." My heart dropped into my stomach. We hadn't mentioned this for that entire two years that we'd been safe. "I wrote MAYBE when I realised you were safe," Dad continued, finishing the song. "Please don't tell the others that I know how to play!" I pleaded. "Except Alice...who probably knows...and Jasper. But not the others. Not yet..." "Okay, okay," Dad chuckled. "But you need to tell them sometime. A natural piano player can't put off playing for very long."

Do you want chapter 2?? If you do, comment. This is my first story between Renesmee and Edward, especially when Renesmee's only about 7 or 8. I'm 12 years old, I love writing! Please comment!
