recap from part 14:
The King and Queen looked at each other. And turned back to face us, with the Queen looking directly at me.
"Why not?" She smiled warmly.
Part 15
The time had come, for Gavin and I to leave Kalirona with the King and Queen of the sorcerers. Gavin and I had to be sneaked secretly into the same car as them which has tinted windows, least anyone finds out we're getting away and inform Gavin's father. A few of the vampire servants and maids has been squeezed into the car with other sorcerer-servants and maids too.
As the vehicles pulled away from the parking lots, I felt a little worried about this operation. Would the King and Queen go back on their words and separate Gavin and I? After all, the prince of vampires are in their hands, wouldn't they change their minds if they meant us harm?
Gavin pulled me into a hug. I felt safer but my worry did not cease. Whatever might happen to us, I shudder to think about it.
After a few moments, though, Gavin released me and took out his laptop and signed in his msn messenger. Instantly, a chat window popped up, by Kalirona, and he chatted using the webcam.
"Gavin," she addressed my lovely vampire boyfriend. "You are not come back unless I tell you to. Right now, your father's looking for you everywhere. Knowing his character, he'll be outraged to find out that his beloved son slipped out right under his nose. I've got to go now, your father might catch me talking to you. Say hi to Angeline and the others for me!"
"Well, we heard her 'hi'," the Queen chuckled beside me. I gave a hesitant laugh, and then I could feel her eyes on me.
"By any chance, are you a sorceress too?" she asked me.
That question startled me. Why would she think I am one?
She must have seen the surprised look on my face, because she said, "You look a lot like my missing child. Though she went missing more than a decade ago, I could still remember that she looked a lot like you, and by now, she should be about your age. I'm just wondering whether there's a chance that you might be her."
I frowned. "Well, I was told that my parents died when I was very, very young. After that, I was sent to the orphanage because none of my living relatives wanted to take me in. Speaking of which, I've never ever seen them before, as I recall."
"Really?" The Queen looked sad and tired. "I've tried my very best to find my daughter. After all these years, I've still received no news about her. I was only told that she went missing after exploring the royal garden..."
A surge of pity filled me. "I'm sorry about that...Would you feel better if I take a parent-child blood test?" I inquired nervously, wondering what I was signing up for.
"You'll let me do that?" Hope arose in her eyes, heightening my pity for her.
I nodded.
The King turned back to look at us. "Just don't get your hopes up too high, my Queen, I don't want you to suffer so much anymore." His voice broke at the end of the sentence.
"It's okay, as long as we try to find our daughter. I should have kept a close eye on her then. Even if I suffer, I'm alright as long as we are able to find her. I want to apologize for my negligence as a failed mother," she replied him eagerly.
Without replying, the King reached out with his hands, one to the Queen, and the other one to me. I looked at it blankly.
"You've got to take one of our hands each, and so on for us, until all three of us are interlocked with our hands in a small circle," the Queen took the King's hand and reached out with her hands to us. I held their hands with mine.
Closing his eyes, the King spoke. "Dear gods and ancestors of mine, reveal my daughter to my wife and I!"
For a moment, nothing happened.
Just when I thought I'm not their daughter and the sadness Queen would feel, a green and glowy light surrounded our hands, enhancing the effects of the circle.
Beside and in front of me, I could hear the King and Queen gasp in surprise.
"What's happening?" Gavin asked anxiously and I gave a little shrug.
It was the driver who replied. "If the circle becomes red, it means that the girl there aren't their real daughter. If it becomes green, like what you see, it means that she's their real daughter."
I sat still, stunned. How the hell did I become the daughter of the King and Queen of sorcerers? I know nothing about them, about their
species. Hell, I don't even have any special powers!
"Are you sure?" I asked uncertainly, scratching my head.
"Yes! This is true! It has been proven many times! And I finally found you, my daughter!" Tears streamed down her face as she held my, caressing my cheeks with trembling fingers. "My cute little baby girl has grown up to become such a mature and beautiful girl!" She hugged me tightly.
"Welcome back, my daughter!" The King greeted proudly.
My mind was in a swirl. Even though the test had proven that I'm their daughter, I found it hard to believe. From young, I was told that my parents had died in an accident. And I'm merely a normal, powerless human. It was too much for me to absorb, and I certainly don't remember having them as my parents.
"Hang on," Gavin interrupted. "If Angeline's your daughter, how come her scent is the same as of humans?"
"It seems to me that she don't know her own heritage, and untrained sorcerers doesn't use their powers until they are taught how to. And after using their powers for the first time, they would transform from a harmless human status into a true sorcerer or sorceress, which by then would be recognized as a sorcerer just by scent. It seems to me that she hasn't used her powers yet, so you couldn't recognize her as a sorceress," the King, or should I say, my Dad explained to Gavin. "And now my future son-in-law is a vampire!" He laughed.
I looked at Gavin, and noticed him blushing furiously. It's funny to know that he's the only vampire in this car with three sorcerers and one unqualified one. Despite our differences, I would still love him no matter what. Sneakily, I caught his hand in mine. "MuaHaHaHa!" I growled playfully, then laughed when a spooked expression come onto his face. "Hey, baby, I'm still me okay?" I laughed again. Gavin smiled shakily, then 'my' Mum and Dad joined in laughing. For the rest of the journey, we talked and laughed and time passed very quickly. It was nighttime when we reached Dad and Mum's so called 'palace'. It looked more like a giant grand estate from far, and I could dimly make out the shape of the trees and bushes as we drove by.
This would be my first time in years entering this place if what Mum and Dad had told me was true, and I could not wait to check out this place with my dearest Gavin.
