•Chapter 3•
~I'm Sorry~

Madeline had been sleeping in the car about 5 minutes after they left America's house, Gilbert didn't blame her though, because he had been waking her up at 1:30 in the morning and staying there till 10:30-11:00 and he knew that Madeline also had jobs around the house to do. Also the scary ass Polar bear to feed, how on earth does she put up with it?

The lost nation had started to feel guilty for the past few days by taking advantage of her hospitality. How on earth would an innocent girl like her have any sort of neutral feelings towards him now? In all honesty Gilbert had always admired the country, she was so strong and got through all the crap thrown her way and dealt with all the bull shit the all the other countries put her in. But what did Gilbert know? For all he knew there could be something deeper behind that smile, something that no one else knew about. There was something in Madeline's eyes a sort of sorrow and sadness that he had noticed. He wanted to help her.

But how?

But how, was the question that echoed in his mind. This sadness he had noticed in her eyes, he had only noticed two or three days ago. Not the girl who would sit quietly with a gentle smile, or would walk around and nobody noticed. These actions had changed the more time Gilbert spent with the Canadian. That gentle smile that most would think to be happy, but was filled with sorrow if you looked closer. When she walked a sort of sadness and heart break would swirl around her.

The car ride had been four hours so far, which meant another three and a half were yet to come. Because Gilbert had gotten spare keys to Madeline's house he found her car keys and kind of stole her car to haul her back to Canada for Pancakes........ But Gilbert had guessed that she probably got a plane to New York, as she had left her car at home and in her tired state it was quicker to get the plane and not waste a Seven and a half hour drive.

There was then a small shuffling noise Gilbert quickly glanced at the sleep girl. Her soft purple eyes fluttered open. "Welcome back to the world of the living, Birdie." Gilbert had a grin spread across his face. This caused Madeline to smile back.

"It's good to be back." She giggled, which caused the Prussian mans smile to grow wider.

They then sat in the car in silence for about three minutes until Gilbert spoke, "I'm sorry."

There was a few seconds of silence until Madeline answered. "For what?" Madeline cocked her head to the side in confusion.

"For last week..... I had no right to take advantage of you just so you could make me pancakes...... please for-"

Madeline's face heated up then started flapping her arms like a lunatic, "No no. It's fine! Like I don't mind I mean- umm- it was all a bit sudden and may have been a little scary, but I actually thought you were bluffing and if I knew you were actually gonna do it then I would have made the pancakes before you even suggested the.... whole ummm thing..."

"But I feel guilty so, I feel as though I have to apologize for that and for barging in to your 'family-get-together'." Gilbert apologized once again and Madeline could see the distress on his face.

"Honestly Gilbert. I'm not bothered by it very much. So, please don't feel guilty over someone who is unnoticeable and pathetic like me." She wore a sad smile.

Gilbert then slammed his foot on the break and pulled over to the side of the road. The albino turned his head towards the Canadian."Don't ever say that! You are worth so more than you give yourself credit for........" Gilbert then grabbed both of Madeline's hands in his own, this caused her to jump a bit and deep red spread across Madeline's face. "Please, I'm begging you. Don't say anything like that about yourself ever again because it's not true." Gilbert finished.

The Prussian then pulled out of the side of the road and drove off on the highway once more.

The blonde Canadian woman slowly opened the front door and the albino followed her into the house. "If you want you can sleep in the guest room, that's only if you'd like too!" Madeline's faced heated up in embarrassment.

Gilbert smiled at the younger nation, "I will only if you don't mind me to. Also I have to go back to Germany tomorrow......" Gilbert started to hesitate, you could see the light tinge of red touch his face whilst a finger was scratching one of his cheeks. "And I wouldn't mind if you joined me.... that's only if you would like to! I'm not gonna force you to do anything you don't want, but it would be really awesome if you did." Gilbert's face was now a tomato.

The Canadian standing before him giggled slightly, both of the two nations were a bit hesitant and embarrassed. She smiled and replied, "I would love to accompany you Gil."

"FOOD! GIVE US FOOD! YOU MUST FEED ME OR I'LL COOK THE BIRD." The polar bear chanted whilst indicating the small yellow bird nesting on top of his head.

Gilbert was now burying his face into Madeline's back and quickly wrapped his arms around her waist in attempt to hide from the bear. "Birdie, Save me! Ihr Eisbär ist beängstigend, wie fuck! Oh and save Gilbird as well!" The Prussian cried into the Canadian's back.

Madeline's smile seemed to grow and let out a short laugh and shook her head. "Kuma, I'll get you food if you agree to not have Gilbird as a hostage." Madeline bent down to eye level with the Polar bear.

The bear nodded in agreement, so Madeline carefully cupped her hand and Gilbird hopped into them. She slowly stood up and trotted over to Gilbert. Madeline then went on her tiptoes to reach the albinos head and gently placed the bird to nestle in his hair. "There ya go. You now look like your normal self, but without the uniform." Madeline laughed as she started to make her way to the kitchen. Little did she know that the albino in her home was having a bit of a brain melt down.

Once Madeline gave food to Kumajirou, she then called from the kitchen, "Gil, what would you like for dinner?" She then heard the shuffling of someone trying to get off her couch and then she heard footsteps.

The lost nation then appeared behind the younger nation. "I don't mind, your cooking is awesome, so anything you make will be better than awesome!"

And with that Madeline made the two nations a meal, afterwards they cleared up the dishes and etc. Madeline then made her way to the guest room whilst Gilbert followed behind her. They said their goodnights and Madeline made her way to her own room.

Once in her room she started to pack for the journey. 'Crap, I don't know how long I'll be there for!' She panicked.

The Canadian decided just to chuck a bunch of clothes in her suit case and some Polar bear food, as she had to bring Kumajirou with her because if she were to stay in Germany for long then there'd be no one to look after him. Sure it would freak Gilbert out, but he'll learn to like the Polar bear as Madeline and Gilbert we're starting to be quite close friends.

Once Madeline had finished packing she made her way to the pajama draw and took out her oversized hockey jumper and a clean pair of underwear. Once changed she jumped onto her bed and crawled under the covers and fell asleep straight away.
