Chapter 2
The words, the emotions - all of it came crashing down at him as he sank into the bed, deeply engrossed in his world of thoughts. Unable to wrap his mind around the erupting emotions that he was still to pin point at, he dropped his head into his hands. Hours had passed by, yet he wasn't in a state to conclude as to what exactly his actions meant. The burning ache of losing her was eased a bit, though still made its presence noticeable. His vulnerability came hitting back at him when the hours he had spent in search of her had flashed across him.
The entire scenario was held at a different height of severity since she had been low for quite some while. Falling into the habit of aimless wandering of hers' didn't help either. He couldn't shake the feeling off, when he thought of the possibilities of being distanced from her.
She had become an integral part of his life; he needed her as much as a necessity. Though, he hadn't ever pondered over the thought - never felt the need to - he always knew she held an important place in his life. She wasn't his best friend by fluke.
He wouldn't deny that the daunting feeling he had experienced was the most heart wrenching one for him. For some reason he couldn't think of a life without her.
Now the only question that troubled him was - Why?
He had questioned his actions, his emotions. It wasn't just the piercing fear but also his relief at the mere sight of her. She had somehow managed to bring both fear as well as relief to him. This bothered him.
She made it difficult for him to grasp the reality and believe that she wasn't slipping away from him, yet again. Also, she was able to drain away all his tiredness and pain by just wrapping her arms around him; enclosing him into her shelter.
Mukti had rightly pointed that his outcome for anyone else would have been rather more composed. However, where Nandini was concerned he was anything but composed; he had the tendency to lose his mind. He was rather impulsive when it came to Nandini; his policy 'To think before you act,' wasn't applicable.
He stood in front of the wall plastered with memories of him along with his friends - his best friend included. He gazed over the number of snaps that depicted his smile with hers. He was able to see the moments in a different light. Those weren't just carefree moments but they held a deeper meaning - she was the reason behind his smile, every time - every damn single time. She had managed to bring out a smile on his face, tackled the sadness off of him, earning a chuckle or bubbles of laughter in response. And a sense of pride filled him when his eyes drew the sight of her happiness, her laughter in few - him.
Love?
He hadn't really pondered over his feelings as being best friends shrugged away any doubt that even made the slightest of occurrence in his mind. But now that the thought had registered itself, he was nothing but afraid.
