"Are you sure this will help her?"
The older man looked through the crack in the door. He could see his daughter, pale and in pain.
"It has quite the chance to. I must warn you though, the charms are very unstable. I stumbled upon them in the Royal Library, you see, and I myself don't know a thing about magic. I am sure though, that a powerful enough wizard can perform them just right, and save both her and the baby she's bearing. Anyway, I better head out... The king's laundry won't do itself..."
With those word the thin, cloaked man turned around and walked off into the rainy night. Leaving the other man standing there, clutching a paper with runes scribbled all over it. He turned and opened the door into the bedroom a little more, enough to put his head in, and looked upon his ill daughter once again. He could not bare to see her in this state.
"Don't worry... Soon everything is gonna be alright..."➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰
"I don't care what you say! I know for a fact, that you have been cheating on me!"
The Queen was furious. She was holding her husband by the collar with one hand, with a piece of paper in another.
"Honey, believe me, I have no idea what you're talking about! I'm the King, do you think I would be able to sneak out every night? That's ridiculous!"
The Queen then pushed the King down to sit at her make-up table, and rose the paper to his eye level.
"Oh no, you clearly don't see her EVERY night, as it says in this letter of yours, you bastard!" The King was clearly shocked. The face that usually expressed nothing but cold domination, now stank of distress.
"W-What are you talking about? I h-have written no letters..."
In response to that the Queen just started shouting once again:
" Domt you dare lie to me! I found this in your desk this morning! You didn't even bother to hide it! 'My lovely Lilly, I'm afraid I won't be able to meet you tonight. There is a big banquet in celebration of the Holy Dynasty day, and I have to attend, though do know that I will be thinking of you the entire...' "
At this moment the King made an tempt to raise to his feet, just to be put down once again with a blow to the chest. The air left him as he tried to mutter:
"H-How did you get it... The only person who I let d-deliver those letters was..."
The Queen then shut him up with a smack to the face. He collapsed onto the table, overwhelmed not so much with the pain of the blows, but that of his thoughts. To add to his misery, the Queen has spoken again:
"Soon all this information will end up in the papers. I am sure that the people will be very interested to hear that their King is a dirty rat!"
This was the last drop. Suddenly the King heard a voice in the back of his head:
"You know, there is a way to make her shut up forever..."
He started to search the table, blindly and thoughtlessly. Then, a grin came over his face as his fingers touched the cold metal of the scissors...➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰▫️➰
The shadow of the dragon swooped over the town, putting fear into the hearts of the civilians. The dragon was heading north, towards the Darulum mountain range, where it would find itself a hiding place.
Many eyes followed its flight across the sky, but there were two pairs among them that had particular feelings expressed in them. One set full of triumph and determination, the other full of sorrow and regret. The latter would soon have the image of that dragon reflected in them once again, as their owner was going to enter the dragon's new layer...
After a long trip along the frost-covered paths, the wizard has made it up the vicious mountains. He sensed where the dragon was... He had a connection to it. He then saw a light coming out of one of many cave-mouths. It was the radiance of the dragon's scales... It was in pain.
The wizard was now looking into the cave. Inside he saw the dragon's giant, red form, curled up into a ball, as if trying to become smaller.
He came up to it, and put one hand on its heads but immediately pulled away. A red spot was forming on his palm. It opened its big, yellow eyes. They shined like newly smithed brass plates.
"I'm sorry you have to go through this..." The wizard muttered, hoping that it would understand.
Suddenly the glow became brighter, making the wizard turn his eyes away. He heard the deafening roar of the dragon, and, suddenly, high-pitched crying...
