                                                                                  Chapter 1

                                                                    The Escape From the Dead

I ran through the forest as fast as i could the dead also known as as zombies were chasing me as i was gasping for air and ignoring the cramp in my side. I looked back and i couldn't see them but i didn't want to be wrong so i kept on running till it started to get dark. I climbed a tree and wrapped a rope around me and the tree and tried to fall asleep but its not too easy sleeping knowing that something could attach me any second. My friend Abby who i lost back in the forest called my name "Alex! Alex! are you hiding in the trees again." Hey i'm up here climb up. She climbed up but it took a little time for her since she didn't have as much practice as me. Hey did you kill the dead back there? She said yea. Then i gave her the rope to tie herself to the tree, and we both fell asleep.

We both woke up from the sound of the dead screaming from the bottom of the tree so i made a little fire in a ditch of the tree and heated up some water, then dumped it on the dead's head so it dropped to the floor in pain. We climbed down and stabbed a knife right in its head just to make sure it was for real dead. Abby and me walked with knifes, bows and arrows, and Abby had a gun that she took from a store where we stopped on the way.

The year was 2024 when the zombie apocalypse happened. I was 12 and my neighbor abby was 11. We just moved to Georgia and i got a new best friend, Abby. And just a week and a half later bad things happened. The dead became living but when they awoke they only had an appetite for those who where living. Abby's family and my family ran to hide in the woods but the dead got to both our family's one by one and eventually we were the last of them.

Four years later past and now we are here fighting off as many zombies as we can. Abby and I eventually know we will soon be dinner to the dead, But i just cant bare think that way not now. We have past a couple of groups of survivors but we could not stay because we wanted to find the best place to survive.

Abby herd a noise and told me to be quiet. "What is it?" I said. She told me she sees something in the distance. I walked forward as quietly as i could. I took out my bow and arrow and raised it slowly i put it together and walked step by step. A deer popped its head up. I took aim, but before i could the deer dropped to its side from the dead biting it. the dead girl came at us and i shot it right by its face, but i missed. if i got out another arrow the zombie would have attacked me i had to run.

"Alex Run!" Abby said. I ran aside by abby we ran for a while but soon i couldn't see her i called her name loudly. "Abby! Abby!" I cried but i had to keep running i got to a street and stayed on it for a while. "Abby!" I had to have said it about fifty times. tears ran down my face but they turned cold. and soon i felt lost and alone.

I tried not to think about loosing Abby. But i just had to i thought if she could have died or if she survived. It was awful. I saw the dead walking toward me so i got out my knife and stabbed it in the head blood came gushing out and its hand reached out. i stabbed it one more time and then it was dead for sure. A herd of dead came walking past this happened once and a while. It was also about to be dark so i climbed a tree again. I thought a lot about everything and i realized if Abby was nearby about two miles away she could have a signal from my walkie talkie. so i took it out and called out to her. She answered back but in a frantic voice i new something was wrong.
