His hair

My eyes travelled from his arms over his chest up to his head where I looked him in the eyes, just long enough to see that glimpse of hope again. It was still there but it got less and less every time. David waited for me to look at a different body part filled with memories, ready to reveal a little more.

I stopped at his hair. His blonde and beautiful hair that used to be strong and thick, now was getting thin and very lifeless. He tried to cover it with a baseball cap that he wore almost every day. He lifted it from his head, so I could have a proper look.

I could see all the miserable nights that he had spent drunk in random bars with random people and with friends that weren't really his friends.
I could see all the nights he had spent drunk with a different woman by his side every time to fill in the loneliness. He still felt alone. David never knew the name of any of his companies. They were just there to watch him getting wasted and to keep him entertained. But he never slept with these women, he was too afraid to get one of them pregnant.
The last thing he would need was a pregnant woman clinging to his side and wanting money from him.

When he noticed the hair falling out he bought the baseball cap. It was olive green and looked kind of old schooled. But it suited him. He looked handsome with it. He still was the most attractive human being I've ever seen.

Conclusion: The thinning of his hair was due to his alcohol abuse. He bought a baseball cap to cover it up.

Next: His face.
