Amber ran the straightener through her hair for the 3rd time before giving up. It was nearly impossible to tame her wild mane and once again, she cursed her Scottish heritage. She ran it through once more before dropping it on her vanity in exasperation. How is it possible that she can successfully conduct a multi-million dollar architectural project but couldn't manage to keep her hair straight? Amber glowered at the mirror; wishing her disobident hair away. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't cover up her uncontrollable hair, or her bright green eyes and red freckles for that matter. Just for once in her life she wanted to look...sophisticated. Not that she thought it to be possible.
A knock at the door distracted Amber from her self-pity and she turned her attention to her bedside clock. 5 A.M, right on time.
"Enter." Amber called out, letting her assistant know she was ready for the day.
Sara Downing entered her bosses room carrying a muffin wrapped in a plastic bag and a bottle of water.
Amber deeply admired Sara Downing. She was the closest thing Amber would ever have to a friend, and had all the traits Amber wanted; dependable and attractive. Amber was sure Sara never had issues with looking sophisticated. Her brown hair was cut to perfection, just touching the tips of her shoulders when straight, and her glasses gave her the 'no-nonsense' look; tie that all in with her red uniform and Sara was the image of professionalism.
"Miss President." Sara greeted, before quickly closing the door behind her.
As usual, Sara had the ability to assess the problem immediately and she hopped into action; handing Amber her breakfast and grabbing the straightner to fix her bosse's hair.
"Oh, Sara, you're a life saver." Amber really didn't know what she'd do without Sara. She would have been the perfect VP for this year's election, but due to her lack in popularity, Amber had to choose a more demanding figure for her other half in the campaign. That didn't discourage Sara though, she still agreed to work with Amber, and she successfully kept' her on the track to victory. Sara was always there for Amber's minor meltdowns, bad decisions, and helped her through her weakest moments. Sara would have made a great Vice President, but Amber was secretly glad she had became her assistant instead.
