The Myth

It all started with the goddess of night, Nyx. She descended to Earth to bestow her blessing on four special people, two men, two women. This blessing appeared somewhere on the body in the shape of a phoenix holding a young moon in its talons, it symbolized rebirth as a child of the night. Unfortunately many others were against this, fearing that the blessed would turn evil and attack them, for this reason they killed three of the blessed but one escaped, a young woman. She didn't understand what was happening until the goddess reached out to her by bestowing upon her the power to control the five elements. Now many people think there are only four: fire, earth, water, and air, but there is one more. Spirit. This woman had control over all five, the most that any one person, blessed or otherwise, could control was the four that everyone knew about, with spirit, one could communicate with any creature with a soul. Humans were mostly soulless beings so she could not get through to them no matter how hard she tried.
The young woman created a sacred ritual and would pray to the goddess on every new moon, that's when Nyx's presence was strongest, then blow out a candle for each element at the end of the ritual that she had lit at the beginning. She would call upon then thank each element before blowing out each candle, she did this every new moon until she was attacked and killed before she could blow out spirit. That candle stayed lit for many nights until Nyx descended once more and thanked the young woman for being her spirit then blew out the candle herself and took it back with her to remind her of that woman each new moon. She never blessed another child after that, staying alone in the night for the rest of eternity.

That is, until she blessed me that night on my sixteenth birthday. Some blessing, it felt like a curse!
