You came to with a start. You sat up straight and viewed your surroundings. A white expanse. Papers were floating through the air. On each of them you could see different people. Not a single one of them the same. They were all so different it was as if they came from different worlds entirely. On top of you rested a bright blue blanket and under your head lay a dull red pillow. Not nearly as regal as the room Nightmare had offered you, but it was better than nothing. 'At least Dream decided to take care of me...after abducting me... But who are Ink and Blueberry? Dream talked about them like they were people instead of objects...weird...' you thought. And it was weird. You had heard of people naming their diary or stuffed animal, but never fruits and writing utensils. 'Maybe he's not mentally stable...' That thought scared you quite a bit. Being trapped here was one thing. But being trapped here with an insane skeleton monster? That was another deal entirely. The thought alone was quite frightening actually. Your breath caught in your throat as you heard three voices appear out of nowhere. All of them seemed to belong to males. You quickly fell back down onto the ground and lifted the blanket over yourself, pretending to be asleep. You didn't want whoever they were to know you were awake just yet. Not yet. There were three voices, all muffled by the blanket over your head. You could only catch bits and pieces of their conversation.
"Where did----find her?"
"----scape----said she was looking for Nightmare-----save her from him----know how he is..."
"-------if she's a spy?-------working for him!"
You rolled the blanket down slowly, so slowly that your movement wouldn't be noticed if someone wasn't staring directly at you. Inching the blanket down a bit past your ear, you could hear the conversation clearly.
"But she looked so innocent! I checked her soul! He hasn't marked her!"
"Not yet at least..."
As that last point was made, all three of the voices fell silent. Things seemed tense. They started speaking in hushed tones.
"She said he would get mad if he found out she was missing!" one of them whispered urgently. You recognized that voice as Dream. Were the other two Ink and Blueberry? You rolled the blanket down a little more.
"He must have taken her prisoner. Poor thing... As soon as she wakes up I'm going to make her some tacos to feel better! After all, nothing makes anyone feel better than tacos prepared by yours truly!" This voice sounded so innocent... almost like a child. It was full of confidence and seemed to be very sure of itself. He truly sounded like he only wanted to help. Something about that made you think of him as very sweet.
"Okay, as soon as she gets up you can make her some tacos..." This voice was different. Where the other seemed full of childish wonder, this one seemed full of maturity. He sounded almost like a mother giving in to her child's request. The fist voice squealed in delight until the second continued. "But, after that we're going to have to stop Nightmare. Once and for all. This has gone too far. At first it was just destroying universes, but now kidnapping young girls? That's a new low even for him."
What did he mean 'destroying universes'? Your Nightmare wouldn't do that.... right?
"I'm going to wake her up and tell her how we saved her!" the first voice exclaimed. You heard a chorus of 'No' and 'Don't' and 'Not yet' but it was far too late. You closed your eyes quickly, trying to pretend that you had been asleep this whole time. The blanket was ripped off of you and someone began to shake you violently. Since your eyes had grown accustomed to the darkness the blanket provided, you were not ready for the sudden light that assaulted your vision. When your eyes cleared, all you could see was the smiling, energetic face of a skeleton. His eye sockets were black with huge blue eyes suspended in them. Inside of the blue lay big yellow stars that seemed to sparkle with excitement. The gray shirt he wore was adorned with gray shoulder pads with blue trim and tucked into a pair of black pants which were, in turn, tucked into a pair of blue boots. The hands that shook you from your false sleep were covered in tough blue gloves.
