Lunch me. The most annoying part of the day, and the most chaotic. Sometimes, I actually enjoyed going to the cafeteria to eat because I like the fact that I can't hear my own thoughts, due to the 100 something students in there. Other times, I just can't handle the thought of socializing with human beings, and go to the library instead. The only reason I went to lunch today is because I wanted to find all the places where I could sit alone, for future reference. Places where I could eat in peace, away from others, in my own little bubble.
While I was in line, I took note of a few spots near the double doors leading outside, in case of a fire, and one on the opposite side, near the wall next to the vending machines. As I looked ahead to see what was on the menu today, I thought, "Oh God. They're serving us turkey and meatballs. It looks like two inbred dogs fucked and had a baby with Down syndrome and mumps, then had a stroke, and someone poured acid on it." Okay, maybe that was an over exaggeration, but that's honestly how I felt.
As I carried my tray to the seat near the wall and sat down, I noticed that there was someone staring at me again. I tried not to take notice, but then they got up with their tray and walked over to me. They set their tray right across from me and sat down, but I pretended not to notice.
"How long are you going to ignore me Ty-kun? I've been waiting to see if you would come sit with me, but you completely ignored me."
I finally looked up and saw Kiana staring at me, pouting. I wasn't sure why she was upset, so I finished chewing my food and said, "I'm sorry, but I like eating alone. Did you make any new friends?"
"Yes, I did," she said proudly, "but everybody wants to give me their number, even if I don't have a cell phone."
I choked on my food when she said that, amazed that there were still people who didn't have phones in this day and age.
"Why don't you have a phone yet?" I asked her.
"Well," she said, "my parents can't afford one right now, and I never really needed one since I was homeschooled."
"Why were you homeschooled for so long?" I asked as I drank my milk.
"Because my mom said that there were sluts and fake people everywhere," she said with a straight face. I almost spit out my milk, but I swallowed it and started laughing. Loud.
"Why are you laughing?" Kiana asked me, puzzled by my sudden outburst.
"Because," I said, "she isn't wrong. But let me ask you something."
"Anything."
"Why are you talking to me then? You don't think I'm a slut or fake?"
"No," she answered confidently.
"Why?"
"It's simple," she stated, "no girl would ever approach you because you're awkward and not that good-looking either. And you aren't fake because you're blunt about everything and don't spare anybody's feelings."
First of all, I wasn't expecting her to just be that blunt, so I immediately started choking on my food again. Second, I was perfectly capable of getting a girl to approach me! It's just that, well, I haven't been, you know, putting myself out there. AND I KNOW I'M NOT GOOD-LOOKING!!!
"Hey Ty-kun, are you ok? Did I say something wrong?" She look at me with a worried look on her face.
"N-no," I said, after regaining my composure. "You're fine, I just wasn't expecting you to be so blunt about it."
I turned to look at her, and realized she was laughing. I also noticed that I had attracted the attention of some males and females, half of them glares and why is he the lucky one looks, the others just confused on what was so funny, wanting to be included, I'm guessing.
