I finally rip my eyes
away from your riveting gaze. You hold me there,
staring.Your eyes are full of starlight,
and my chest moves faster,
my heart ache deepens,
because I know
that you can never be with me.I am too broken
to be loved by something
so whole — so full to the brim,
so alive,
so beautiful. So when you touch my wrist,
your eyes wide with
dancing watercolor,
flitting city streetlights,
I turn away,
the hole in my heart aching
as I hear you say,
"come back",
because I know;
I know that we could never work,
and it hurts
to admit the truth to yourself.— Lana
