Swearing
____________________________Silent darkness consumed my vision. Yet everything else seemed so chaotic.
Why couldn't I see anything?
My ears were vulnerably exposed to the penetrating sounds of a horn, blaring much too loudly. All while paired with the noise that any one person, could easily identify as the crackling and popping of a raging fire. The cool breeze of the summer night no longer accompanied me in my truck. Instead, unbearable heat was radiating from all around me, piercing my skin - skipping the feeling of pins and needles and going straight to a living hell. My own living hell, dousing me in endless ineffable pain.I struggled to peel my eyes open, even if it was the tiniest bit, to get a visual on my surroundings. What I saw was gut wrenching. My vision blurred the angry colors of orange and red flames dancing along the edges of my red, automatic truck. My head pounded as if it had been bashed in a million times with a rock. My tired gaze floated over to the front of me and panic swelled within my aching chest. The front of my truck had managed to wrap itself halfway around a burly, dark tree.
My breathing had become both erratic and a chore in only seconds. As much as I yearned for oxygen - every time I tried to inhale, my lungs were battered by thick, black, air consuming smoke. Lack of oxygen brought dizziness and coughing. As I heaved and choked, out came a thick red substance that distinguished the awful taste of metal.
Blood.
My whole body throbbed with pain as I racked my brain trying to remember what exactly had gotten me here.
I had just got an eviction notice for my apartment and went to a bar. I was upset and went to the cemetery to talk to...
dad? Right.I went driving afterwards while drunk, and thought I saw something on the road... In a panic, I swerved and ended up here I guess. Everything before and after that seemed like a huge blur... The ringing in my head snapped me back and I realized that if I didn't try to get out, my truck would explode with me in it. I attempted to turn my head so I could see what I was doing but immediately stopped when pain erupted in my neck.
I cringed and reached over my body careful not to move my head or anything else. I jiggled my seat belt and tried to unlock it but to no luck, it was stuck. I tried to remain as calm as I could, obviously failing. I started getting more and more frantic as what little time I had passed by, when suddenly a thought occurred to me, my phone! My eyes darted around quickly in a desperate search to find it. They had paused when they landed on the floor beside me. It was too far for me to reach and even if I could reach it, it was shattered to beyond fixable.
I highly doubt anyone would be out at this time anyways, in the smack middle of nowhere. A single tear strolled down my hot face and onto my lap. I let out a small hoarse yelp as I coughed and pain had flared in the right side of my stomach. My mouth was coated with that familiar metal tasting substance and when I coughed, it was all that came out. I groaned and winced in discomfort, my throat burned and my neck, head and stomach caused me agony but I was able to peer down and see what happened. My eyes widened and my anxiety spiked when I saw the object. It was sharp and lathered with fresh dark, almost black blood and big... A shard of glass, from my windshield I assume, had impaled me.
The piece of glass glistened against the light of the raging fire and I was slowly starting to lose consciousness. As much as I wanted to fight to stay awake and get out I couldn't. My body was suffering the consequences of my actions just as much as I was mentally. I was dying and all by myself. Not surrounded by family, not in a hospital bed. Alone. Alone in the middle of nowhere, stuck just like my seat belt in the middle of a burning nightmare.
Tiny black dots kissed my vision repeatedly, thick smoke clogged my vision, nostrils and lungs. All I did was let out tiny cries of help to anyone that could save me, anyone that could hear me, because that's all I could do. My time was almost up and my hope wavered. Darkness was slowly consuming my vision once again and just as I was slipping into unconsciousness, faintly in the distance, whether it was just my imagination or reality, I heard it. A car coming to a stop and a door being shut. Their footsteps got louder and louder as I slipped farther and farther away.
My vision unfocused and hazy, I caught a quick glimpse of a figure before I finally closed my eyes and began to let go. I accepted the fact that this was most likely the last thing I'll ever experience. What lingered in my mind was the unguided echoes of their voice swarming aimlessly around in my head...
"You're going to be okay."
"Stay with me!"
"Hello? Can you here me?"
"You're going to be okay..."
