Halder recognized the figure of a warrior bearing his wounded comrade, both now turned to stone, a sculpture that must have once been the centre-piece of a courtyard or house, discolored and weathered from centuries of being outdoors. Between the tapestries on one wall was a larger door mounted on five iron hinges that ended in floral motifs across the wooden planking. Amaelden led the way, the boy hardly daring to follow. They reached the door. As they entered, it was as if Halder had entered an arena from fantasia. A chamber of wonders filled the young boys vision. The glow of the lamp illuminated, and the dancing flame brought such rich and vibrant color to life as he had never seen.

Halder turned to see Amaelden reaching into his woolen cloak, his hand emerging holding two large candles. He walked to the brazier on the wall and lit one of them, placing the other back inside the folds of his robe. 'I confess, to having been prepared for this little visit.' He placed the lamp on the floor, then proceeded to leave the place they had entered, holding each candle in one hand as if part of a sacred ceremony.
