A couple of weeks after Shelby was born, things started to sink in, like how Rachel wouldn't sleep at night and had to go into school everyday looking like a zombie, and how Finn had to stay in all the time and look after Shelby because Rachel was too busy. rehearsing for Funny Girl to spend 24/7 with her baby, which got Finn really mad. This meant he couldn't get a job or plan what he was actually going to do with his life.
"Are you forgetting Shelby is you're daughter too?!" Finn shouted whilst Rachel was preparing for a day of rehearsals.
"No, Finn, I haven't, but in case you haven't noticed I have a lot going on at the moment so if you would just back off and let me do my thing,"
"That's the thing Rachel, I have been backing off but now I'm the only one who seems to be caring about her!"
"EXCUSE ME! I would die for my daughter!"
"Well I'm going home today to work so I guess you're on your own"
Finn stormed out and Rachel was left standing there as if she had no clue as to what just happened.
Rachel rang the director and told him the story, he seemed to be fine letting her take the day off.
A few minutes later and Shelby began to cry. Rachel jut stood there looking at her blankly, she finally picked Shelby up and tried to calm her down. Shelby didn't stop crying and Rachel began to sob too, it was like Shelby had no clue as to who Rachel was, this was like the first time Rachel had picked Shelby up since the day they came home from hospital.
"It's ok baby you're mommy is here!"
Shelby didn't stop for at least 2 hours when Kurt walked through the door.
Kurt found Rachel staring at Shelby as she carried on crying.
"Rachel, don't just stare at her!"
"Well I don't know what's wrong with her, she won't eat and she doesn't need a diaper change I checked,"
"Well have you rang Finn he might no what's up?"
"No he thinks I'm a bad mother so I'm here to prove him wrong."
"Well you're not getting off to a great start."
Kurt picked up Shelby and gave her a cuddle. She stopped crying and Rachel was amazed.
"See it's like she doesn't like me!"
"She loves you, it's just because I've been here more than you have, try and be here for her as much as you can,"
"How do I do that?"
"Get up at night when she cries, take her to rehearsal with you so she can see how amazingly talented her mommy is, I know you can do this Rachel you just have to try harder."
"Thank you, I knew I could count on you."
At 8'o'clock, Finn returned home and as he walked through the door he saw Rachel singing to Shelby.
"Wow have I been for a month or a day because it seems like my girlfriend has finally learnt how to be a mother."
"Very funny, actually I learnt a lot about motherhood whilst you were gone and I have decided to bring Shelby with me to rehearsals tomorrow,"
"Thats great, good to know, I love you."
"I love you too"
Rachel and Finn shared a kiss as they both watched over there daughter as she slept in her crib.
