The moon shone in the sky casting a dark light on the path, trees casting twisted shadows behind me. Silence, my footsteps echoing out into the darkness, my warm breath creating swirling white mist into the cold, i wrap my jacket tighter around my body and I start walking faster towards my house. I fumble with the keys on the doorstep, the cold metal biting into my fingers "click" the door unlocks and I shuffle into the warmth of the hallway. I cringe as the door closes with a loud bang that echos through the house, but no one comes, I quickly sprint up the stairs to my attic bedroom, running past my family's bedrooms on the way. I run into my room and as quietly as possible I close the door, I strip myself of my warm clothes and flop onto the bed, sleep. The morning light penetrates my room, I get up drunkenly and put on my favorite pair of jeans and a black shirt, like always i don't bother with makeup just putting on some chap stick and quietly walk down the stairs to the kitchen, expecting it to be empty but everyone (including my soon to be step mother and sister) sitting there staring at me, i pause on the last step but then regain my composure and start for the fridge
"Fiona wait" i her Cassidy say "before you make breakfast we need to speak to all of you" she continues grabbing my fathers hand on the word 'we'
"so as you all know in the following month Cassidy and I will be getting married" my father says his monotone voice actually sounding excited
"but we have even bigger news" Cassidy says continuing what my father said they wait a few moments before my father says "we are moving into Cassidy's house in California!"
i don't even think before i react "no" i say in a quiet voice
"what was that Fiona?" Cassidy asks sounding slightly annoyed
" i said no! we are not moving we have lived our here entire lives you can't just expect us to move out and leave everything behind! all my friends live here, i know this city like the back of my hand! AND it is the middle of the school year!" i say not stopping for a breath
" Fiona you will make new friends and your new school, there is nothing to worry about and you can still keep in contact with your friends, you have a phone!" Cassidy said with an annoyed tone of voice
"i know" i say quietly "but its not the same!"
"Finn!" my father jumps in "this is not your decision it is ours so go start packing we leave on Friday!"
Friday! that is only two days away "fine..." i say finely staring intensely at my father without a word i excuse myself and stomp up to my room the nasty surprise has spoiled my appetite.
