I narrowed my eyes in concentration,my target laying in a bed of ice,it's ears twitching every which way. The minute the doe lowered her head,I let my arrow fly. The doe didn't jump up fast enough, and my arrow landed in her heart with a thunk! I sent a prayer to the spirits, thanking the deer for her sacrifice.I pulled the arrow out and took my knife and began to skin the doe.I cleaned my weapons off and began to head home when I heard the sound of wings, followed by a screech.Hawk,I thought.I howled to alert my pack,my eyes narrowed on the sky.
I waited for a few minutes before being tackled by two furry white wolves-my brothers. They bounced around me,but ain't wasn't in the mood. I let out a growl to let them know that I didn't want to play and they slicked away with pitiful whines. My eyes landed on my father and I lowered my gaze to the snow below my feet as I approached him.He turned to me with a serious expression, and I turned my head to the sky with a growl. He looked up and let out a growl also before howling. The pack looked up and a collective snarl ripped from their throats. My father looked at me and I nodded,my bow already in my hands.
I quickly scaled a tree and wrapped my legs around a branch, and aimed at the man in the front-clearly the alpha.I aimed and let the arrow fly, startling the mount of the leader. He looked around, his yellow eyes narrowed.I jumped from the tree and landed in front of him and his pack,my furry hood covering my face. "And you are?" He said, his voice husky and deep.I didn't respond,as I studied him.He had the top of his head shaved, and his hair was long and black. His eyes were naturally narrowed with black sclera and yellow eyes resembling his hawk, who perched on his shoulder."Láng Hái."I spoke, softly. The sound of my father's howl reached my ears and I lifted my head and answered with my own howl. The army of males seemed surprised when I did this, but I ignored them in favor of turning to go home."You are in support of the Chinese Emperor."The alpha hissed, and I turned to him."I am in support of no one."I said back, before pulling my arrow from the ground and disappearing into the trees.
I didn't realize that this meeting would change my life forever.
