''I'm glad you did what you did.'' Ray smiled at me from her seat on the counter. I was at work, and since her break-up she's been the one who's hanging around the shop during my shifts to hold me company.

''Yeah, me too. You deserve someone who'll treat you like the princess that you are.'' I grinned.

''Why, thank you.'' she laughed.

Everything was short-lived, since a familiar person walked into the shop.

''Ray, get your freaking stuff, and come home.'' her jerk of an ex-boyfriend demanded.

''No. I never really lived there in the first place.'' she mumbled, probably still a bit intimidated by him.

''Don't get a big mouth now.'' he threatened.

I felt my anger boiling by the way he was treating her, and did the only thing I could think of, the only way I thought he'd leave her alone;

I kissed her.
